I need to figure out what system I need that could be upgraded over time. Like buying a cheap budget gaming rig and upgrade from there. I got a budget of 135 to 200 and I need to know what rig is going to be good in the long run?

Dell Optiplex 790 i7-2600 3.40GHz 16GB Windows 10 256Gb SSD+HDD GPU WIFI
This is what I am talking about. Something to upgrade over time

The 2600 was a legendary CPU, but that was what....12 or 15 years ago?

That entire machine and all of its parts are likely that old. If a major part fails, fixing it would likely be good money after bad.

It likely has a proprietary case and power supply. Difficult to deal with. Maybe motherboard too.

You could get lucky and it would last for 10 years....and for all I know it is powerful enough to run certain games that you need.

Can you add 25 dollars a month to that 200 budget or do you have to buy SOMETHING quite soon?

I got 135 right now, but I get paid so I can add like 120 to that.

I would check your local classifieds, craigslist, or facebook marketplace for potential options you could pick up locally. Shipping computers is generally expensive. Refurbishers get away with it with bulk discounts.

Shouldn't be too hard to find someone selling at least the core components for an AM4 based build.

I got one more question. I have a HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF right now, I use it for Light to almost Medium games on it. Should I just stick with this and add a GPU to it? Its a i5 3470, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1030, 240 PSU and has 1TB of SSD. I'm wanting something new and can upgrade but all this extra stuff is kinda confusing and expensive.

If you want to have a good budget PC in your price range you either need the knowledge and experience to find good used configurations or a higher budget to get modern parts to start a build. We here can help differentiate between good used builds for you, just keep posting the options available to you. The next option would be to get a used console if the games you want to play are available on console.

Thats what I'm going to do. The CPU and GPU. That should boost my computer up, right?

Not in a massive way no. Going from a quad core to a quad core with hyperthreading will help with more recent games, but the core CPU speed is essentially the same.

RX550 puts you up to 4GB of VRAM, which will help the most in newer games.

Anything beyond those upgrades is pretty much wasted money.

A full entry level gaming PC from all new parts will set you back around $500, so spending nearly $100 now puts you that much farther away.

As mentioned by helper800 and others, a used console really has more gaming value at this point.

Can a better graphics card help? I had someone tell me before that I can upgrade to a 1050. I tried to get a x6400 but I don't have a good power supply for a 6400. Would a 1050 help?

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 Low Profile Video Card GV-N1050OC-2GL
Should I get this card? It's a 2GB one. Cheapest I could find. I'm bidding on ebay for the two you showed me, Eximo. Is there a big difference between a 2GB VRAM and 4GB VRAM?
