I have a 3 pin fan header on my mobo and a 4 pin fan connector and this works fine, you can adjust speed in bios trough voltage. But there is one issue. The indication plastic on the 3 pon header is gone so i dont know which way to put it. And since my fan has 4 pins theres alot of different options.

Solution
Connecting a fan to the pictured pins will damage the motherboard.

A jumper connecting pins 1-2 is for normal operation.
Connecting pins 2-3, with the power disconnected, clears the CMOS where BIOS settings are stored.
Look on the motherboard and you will see WHITE TEXT printed next to it saying SYSFAN1 2 3 etc...plug it in there....CPU FANS will go into CPUFAN or CFAN depending on the board you have...
