Hi guys,

I have a gigabit internet connection and I am consistently getting > 900 Mbps down and > 500 Mbps up on ethernet.
I have a TP Link Archer C50 AC at the moment which is advertised for up to 1200 Mbps but I am not even able to reach 100 Mpds down on speedtests with it, even with the computer almost touching the antenas on 5ghz band.

Here's the thing, i'd like to get a router with which I could reach speeds that are closer to my ethrnet speed. However I don't know what I should be looking for in terms of specs.
My TP Link modem is an entry level product but it was advertised for up to 1200Mbps which either is false advertising or is a measure I am misunderstanding.

So a few questions come to my mind:

  • How to interpret the specs for a router ?
  • Can I reach my ethernet speed on a < $200 budget ?
  • Which router would you recommend ?

Thank you guys in advance,

Max

Solution
If your ISP is not able to provide the advertised speeds, then no matter what router you have your speed will limit to what you get already.

If you want the best performance, look for a dual band router that can support the plan you wish to take and has multiple antennas.
