Who makes dell monitors?

Its funny, I know most gamers dislike the concept of Dell (...and having a "cookie-cutter" rig). We'd purchased Dell for a long time at the US Agency I work for and they were quite a step above the other options in terms of model stability, performance, reliability, and service.

I've known for quite some time they they rebrand most, if not all, of their products, ...that doesn't pester me in the least.

My XPS 600 is a descent general purpose rig and it was built well, and its fast. Maybe its not as fast as your high-end gaming rigs, but its fast enough for me, especially since I'm not a gamer. I just edit and re-mix music and video, surf ...the usual stuff. I really like the MetroPlex case that my rig was built in...and for $1,499 back in December of '05 I think I got a good deal considering the 3-year anything-goes warranty.

I worry too much about whether or not my rig is going to get a scratch on it, or get dusty, etc. etc. If I spill coffee in it or it sneezes that cookie-cutter maker is going to fix it or replace it...for 2.5 more years.

They can re-brand all they want.

Read that review and you will see a few of the many reasons we gamers/enthusiasts don't like Dell. Anyway, if you don't feel like reading it, at least skip to the conclusion and check out the ratings in categories like stability and support.

As a small time system builder who takes pride what the customer gets out of each build, I have some other reasons for disliking Dell. Not that they are all bad by any means.

I had a 21" Dell monitor that was made by Sony. I figure they just put stuff like this out to bid and award contracts to whoever bid cheapest. Point is, whatever Dell had, you can probably buy elsewhere for less money. Doesn't mean that the Dell is bad, only that it isn't anything special.

I dont know about the less money part, at least not 100% of the time. I replaced my old NEC 1830 18" LCD with a dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24" LCD Monitor. I couldnt find another 24" within $200 of what I paid (except an acer) and yes, it was new, not a refurb. Regardless of the specs, compared to say the Hyundai Q90, it still beat my old NEC in all areas by a significant margin and had excellent reviews at every site I checked, though I suspect many of the reviewers were on the dell payroll

Nobody can sell a display with Trinitron displayed on it that wasn't made by Sony, that's why it was named Diamondtron by Mitsubishi, check the wiki on this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinitron

Sony still has Trinitron as a trademark even though the patent has expired.

I know, but it's the tube professionals want not the name. And that's why the DiamondTrons are still the gold standard for photo/video. I work with an IBM P260 at work and love trinitrons. If my phillips at home ever goes I'll probably buy a Mitsubishi.

I don't know if Dell ever sold Diamondtron's but if they did they would have been made by Mitsubishi.

I know, the point wasn't A vs B , but just that even Sony doesn't make CRTs anymore (remember it's about manufacturing), much to many people's disappointment, and the only thing left that's close is the Mitsubishi(s). So whle the technology isn't Mitsubishis invention, and it's a 'copy', it's nice they still make them.

I can't argue with you. You know how your mind blocks out bad experiences. As I read that review it took me back to when my father got his XPS 200 and asked me to set it up. ...and the first thing I did was cripple and remove the bloatware.

On my primary rig, I didn't even fully boot into the OS with the bloatware. Once I was sure the power was good and the machine was okay I blew the partition away and re-installed the OS with little further thought...habbit.

I stick by the service we've had from Dell where I work and infer with the warranty I have that I'll be satisfied should I need it. With this said and with deeper thought its clearer why enthusiasts might stay clear of the likes of Dell and construct their own rigs or go to smaller botiques.

I do really like my current Dell rig, I don't think I could have got the level of hardware I have and the warranty support I did for what I paid had I built the system myself or botiqued it. We'll see how she continues to run.

...sorry to be so waaaay off topic, but thanks for the reminder/eye-opener.

Everything Dell sells is rebranded. Many companys including sony makes there montiors. Printers are mostly made Lexmark. They make nothing. They rebrand better then anyone. But most companys rebrand. Sony doesnt even makes there own dvd-rw players, the rebrand them from Lite-on.

I don't really think it is rebranding so much as Dell contracting Sony, et all to make the monitors and slap the Dell name on them for Dell.
