Hello Guys,

Let me start with the full specs

Mobo: ASUS Prime B550M-K
CPU: OLD CPU AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
NEW CPU AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
New cooler: Cooler CPU ID-Cooling Frostflow X 240 Lite
GPU: AMD RX 6600 XT
RAM: Crucial Ballistix, 16GB DDR4, 3200MHz CL16, Dual Channel Kit
Kingston Single Channel 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHZ
Storage: HDD 1TB + SSD 1TB NVME m.2
PSU: Seasonic Core GC, 80+ Gold, 650W

Issue:

After upgrading the CPU and replacing the cooler, after 1 week or 2 I started getting PC freezes when alt tabbing from games. I can still hear Youtube/Discord and my friends on Discord can hear me but after I try clicking randomly and alt tabbing the PC unfreezes for 1-2 seconds I see that it registered my clicks/alt-tabs because i see another page/app and then my friends are not able to hear me anymore, it takes 10-30 seconds for the input from the mic to be picked up again and in the whole time the screen is frozen but I can still hear Youtube/Discord.

There was also one off instance when i had no game running just watching some video on Youtube and it did the same thing.

The only thing I can do to go back to normal is to restart the system.

One thing to note sometimes I can alt tab 30 times with no issue, some times after alt tabbing the first 2-3 times will cause the system to freeze.

I also don't understand and find it curious why in the first week or two i did not experience this or maybe I have short memory and I dont remember.

I would need your help in trying to figure this out I am out of troubleshooting ideeas and I'm going crazy.

-Things I have tried and checked.

Thought that the PSU could not take the new CPU and AIO but verified with parts that are more demanding than mine on various PSU calculators and i'm not even near the 650W

Temps on CPU never go above 70 C ( checked using HWMonitor)

Reinstalled Windows fully clean both HDD and SSD formatted

Updated BIOS to the latest

Installed Chipset drivers 2-3 times

Uninstalled drivers for graphics card using DDU

Reset CMOS by pulling out the battery

Removed the single 16GB stick of RAM

Removed DOCP profile and ran the Rams at stock

Air pressured my GPU and the whole system

Tried disabling Hardware Acceleration from Windows and Steam, Discord, Firefox.

Hello Kira,

Thanks for the reply, I already tried pulling out the single stick ram with no success.

I guess it's worth a shot pulling the 2 sticks but I doubt this is a RAM issue.

It's not ideal, but when you don't have alternate hardware to swap to and you've already gone as far as reinstalling the OS our only real option for troubleshooting is to simply and limit the hardware configuration as much as possible.

Coming back with updates

Even after removing the dual channel ram freezes still occur when alt tabbing :(.

I have a small breakthrough but I cannot understand what it means other than change GPU which I don't think it's the case.

So out of ideas when the freeze occurs I tried pulling the HDMI cable out of the GPU then putting it back in and it works normally after that, no need to restart.

Try a different version of the AMD Adrenalin drivers. If you're not current, update. If you are, try back 2-3 versions. It may be a version or series specific thing with your card.

Will try, I also bought a new cable Display port this time maybe it is the cable altough I doubt it.

My best guess is that something happens to the GPU and pulling out the HDMI refreshes the connection.
