Let us stop the fanboyism and acknowledge AMD's market strategy - the AVERAGE consumer not troubled by synthetic benchmark scores or maxing our Crysis. I see too much hate going on from both camps - let us make love not war. But in reality anyone who 'hates' AMD needs a friggin reality check. Intel will not be on top forever - anyone remember the Athlon series? People were sure AMD would lead the way forever after that.

To start with, who are the Intel fanboys? You get labelled an Intel fanboy by certain retards, just because you believe that arguments should be somewhat logical and not filled with ludicrous amounts of exaggeration and misrepresentation.

And the so called Intel fanboys would happily have an AMD rig if we end up in a K8 vs Prescott situation again, yet you have AMD fanboys who see it as a badge of honour to only ever buy AMD, no matter what.

That is the most glaring difference.

Overwhelmingly Intel users just care about the computing experience, but a sizeable number of the AMD user base have delusional ideas that they are in some kind of Holy War against the Great Satan that is Intel.

Teardrop would not be the ideal shape for airliners unless you want them to fly quite a bit slower than they already do. In addtition, it is the lowest drag shape, but not necessarily the highest lift to drag (the important consideration for airplane design). For supersonic flight, the pointy design is the best (the concorde and SR-71 are good examples of airplanes highly optimized for supersonic flight, as they actually cruised at supersonic speed, unlike most fighters). For subsonic flight, the airplanes we have right now are actually pretty good, and perhaps the best design, the blended wing body, has been rejected for other reasons (specifically, the fact that it would have relatively few windows and a relatively wide passenger compartment, which causes problems both with evacuation in the case of an emergency and with passenger comfort).

Here's a concept of the blended wing body - this is about as efficient as a (subsonic) airliner will get:

Oh, and as long as people are unwilling to pay a significant amount more for the speed, we won't have another supersonic airliner. The fuel usage is MUCH higher, and the operating cost is tremendous when compared to a high-efficiency subsonic airplane. In addition, the sonic booms are a problem when flying over any inhabited areas.

Not too sure about the "profitable" part - didn't Air France and British Airways lose money on most flights, since not that many passengers could afford the $4K+ one-way tickets? IIRC, Concorde was more of a status symbol for them, rather than a money-making venture.

Ideally, I'd like to design launch vehicles for satellites, but I love aircraft too. As for new designs, there are some fairly radical changes in the latest generation of commercial airliners. They still use the standard tube+wings shape (in many cases due to practical considerations), but on the Boeing 787 (which just had its first flight last month), they're using carbon fiber for over 50% of the structure, and they have some interesting aerodynamic changes (especially with the engines) compared to older designs that make it significantly quieter and more efficient than previous designs. It might scare some passengers initially with the wing flex though...

Actually its a well known fact that the NY AG wants to run for office and that NY is the next place where AMD planned a FAB and I think GF plans one too. Thats why I laugh at it. The AG is using it as a way to bolister his figure to the people of NY by coming down hard on a big corporation but what he really cares about is the vote. Thats like the reason McCain went Palin, he wanted the female vote.

And since there is a FAB being planned there alone makes it suspicious. I still stand with the EU. Not sure about Japan since they are not as PC happy as we are.

The only reason ATI/Nvidia can get away with it is that the GPU industry is basically pretty unhealthy. Which is why I really don't mind that 90% of the GPU product segments will be gone within the next 5 years.

That blended wing body is a photoshop - the only real ones are much smaller, and often are research aircraft. As for the wing flex, it is because of the balance between strength and weight. Ideally (as far as aerodynamics are concerned), they would not be flexing, but they gain more from the reduced weight of the structure than they lose from the wing flex. The new materials allow it to flex more without damage, so they decided to go with the weight savings and let them flex.
