the gaming industrys relationship between pirates and customers has been an interesting one over the years.
this is such an interesting topic,
basically you have buyers and sellers remorse, with pirates in the middle, blizzard is obviously trying to control the bleeding with pirating, i couldnt help but laugh at watching the promo video of the new b.net thinking gee guys you are obviously leaving out the biggest reason you are doing this,
you have buyers remorse over the years, buyers that have been burned by many little garbage companies with poorly programmed and made games that dont hold your attention for more than an hour sometimes less,
sellers remorse, blizzard obviously feels that they should have many more millions in the bank from all the people who pirated and didnt pay to play.
however what about people like me, who over time have bought 3 different new copies of starcraft + broodwar, and 2 of diablo 2 including the expansions because i had lost it, "ive moved alot" and after 2 years decided to play it again, loved the games so much i felt it was worth essentially double the price i paid.
people will buy a game if they feel its worth it, i know people who pride thierselves on thier collection of legit copy software, what about the people who are actually so broke they cant afford to buy this game? i know people who have gone periods without eating to pay for school tuition, and bills.
also blizzard like the music industry fails to see that in all actuality people who pirate, but still use and promote the product are still a catalyst to other potential customers.
so when i see a company like blizzard pull a stunt like this, and not even mention thier main objective of the delay, it not only shows thier arrogance, but thier lack of forsight into the nature of the beast, and the lack of respect they have for thier customers, that a good amount of pirates actually cant afford it, the others are catalysts, and really getting away from the fact that concentrating on making great games, and what people want is what got them where they are. people will pay for things they feel compelled to,
because even cheap pirates know at the end of the day, if i want great software like this to keep being produced im going to support them,
im a pirate, a repeat customer, and a catalyst, . . .
this delay, combined with handucuffing players on lan, could backfire.
