You know what? I've never played a Blizzard game in LAN mode. Even so, this sounds like a steaming, fetid pile of bulls**t to me. If the only way to play in LAN mode is to use hacks, won't this actually drive even more potential customers to piracy? I don't understand Blizzard's logic in this one.

You honostly don't think a company like Blizzard hasn't already accounted for X amount of pirated copies in their budget? Also, most people assume this can be hacked easily? What if it is not? I understand, yea, in due time it will get hacked. But have fun dodging droppers, rootkits, and trojans.

with things like this, and more and more games for pc being console ports. . . . i wont go to console, i dont believe in them, or support games like cod2 chopping stuff, and this, . . ill just spend the money i was going to spend on upgrades on a new guitar ive been wanting, screw it, im tired of these industry guys thinking they are slick when they are simply alienating a diehard pc gamer of 12 years. . . who pays and has paid for everything from day one.

This doesn't bother me. It's their game, it's not the first game to not support LAN and that was a necessity before broadband internet. Today not supporting it isn't just their decision, but not a deal killer. It will cut down on piracy and make it easier for them to come down on the ones who do pirate by hunting down pirate server networks and so forth.
They know what they're doing. And the games will be so popular that only a small minority of geeks will resist them.

the gaming industrys relationship between pirates and customers has been an interesting one over the years.

this is such an interesting topic,

basically you have buyers and sellers remorse, with pirates in the middle, blizzard is obviously trying to control the bleeding with pirating, i couldnt help but laugh at watching the promo video of the new b.net thinking gee guys you are obviously leaving out the biggest reason you are doing this,

you have buyers remorse over the years, buyers that have been burned by many little garbage companies with poorly programmed and made games that dont hold your attention for more than an hour sometimes less,

sellers remorse, blizzard obviously feels that they should have many more millions in the bank from all the people who pirated and didnt pay to play.

however what about people like me, who over time have bought 3 different new copies of starcraft + broodwar, and 2 of diablo 2 including the expansions because i had lost it, "ive moved alot" and after 2 years decided to play it again, loved the games so much i felt it was worth essentially double the price i paid.

people will buy a game if they feel its worth it, i know people who pride thierselves on thier collection of legit copy software, what about the people who are actually so broke they cant afford to buy this game? i know people who have gone periods without eating to pay for school tuition, and bills.

also blizzard like the music industry fails to see that in all actuality people who pirate, but still use and promote the product are still a catalyst to other potential customers.

so when i see a company like blizzard pull a stunt like this, and not even mention thier main objective of the delay, it not only shows thier arrogance, but thier lack of forsight into the nature of the beast, and the lack of respect they have for thier customers, that a good amount of pirates actually cant afford it, the others are catalysts, and really getting away from the fact that concentrating on making great games, and what people want is what got them where they are. people will pay for things they feel compelled to,

because even cheap pirates know at the end of the day, if i want great software like this to keep being produced im going to support them,

im a pirate, a repeat customer, and a catalyst, . . .

this delay, combined with handucuffing players on lan, could backfire.

You know what some people do that can afford what they want? They steal, mug, beat-up people for cash, I've talked to people who've gotten knocked out and had a couple hundred stolen from them. What? Because your not beating someone up, because your not physically stealing a physical product it's a OK-to-steal situation? BTW, what are the people you know doing in school if they can't even buy a pack of ramen? Seriously, I know it ain't exactly the food of kings but because you can't afford something doesn't make it OK to steal.
