Why is my mobile so hot?

Ok so we all got the now so disclosed mobile barton but honestly Im not inpressed. I can do more but it burn a lot hotter than my desktop chip ever did. I got the IQXFA0348XPMW chip, which is supposedly one of the good mobiles. I can do higher at lower voltage but the damned mobile chip burns much hotter than the desktop chips. At the 1.7v I got my newest mobile chip in, I have to use the slk-947u with a 92mm tornado fan so I can play games on hot without the chip melting the socket. Well I do live in florida and the temp have been hitting the mid 80s now but I do keep my house nice and cool. So what the hell am I doing wrong with these mobile chips? Thanks.

Yeah, Something is wrong. I'd reinstall the heatsink with extra care making sure NOTHING gets inbetween the cpu and heatsink. What compond did you use? Artic Silver 5 or even 3 is worth the money over regualr paste.

All it can be is high room temps, poor airflow, or poor transfer to your heatsink. Otherwise the more voltage the more heat, and the more MHz the more heat. So upping th voltage and MHz, obviously alot more heat.

If you can run the same speeds on the mobile, as on the regular barton, yet can lower the voltage .2v , then the heat/temps have to go down, or something changed. Be it room temps, air flow, or heatsink mounting not as well off. (something in between, old paste left behind, too much too little arctic silver, uneven artic silver, etc.) Something has to have changed, i have never heard that all else equal a mobile runs hotter. They should be the same.

Without doing any calculations, 2.4GHz @ 1.7v and 2.2GHz at 1.9v sounds like equal temps to me. Easy experiment to try really. But 2.2GHz 1.7v should run cooler.

I hope you either get it solved, or you bought headphones along with that tornado. I was tempted to go that route with a tornado and thermalright Sp-97, but decided I needed a quieter solution. So I started to look at smart or adjustable speed 92mm fans, and ended up sacrificing cooling for easy installation and cost with a Coolermaster Jet7. I'm curious as to how much lower temps I'd see with a SLK-97/ tornado.

no wonder its hot, you are running 2.4 GHZ and 1.7v. That has got to be hotter than a stock 3200+ (desktop) chip. Mobile XP's are just cooler, because they require less vcore. If you increase vcore that high again to maximize your overclock, well, what did you expect ?

OTOH, if you are getting more than 80° CELCIUS, then something is very wrong, regardless what I wrote above. Reseat your heatsink, and remove that pricetag/barecore sticker from the die and apply some thermal grease instead. Paper is not a good heatconductor :)

The heat probably comes more from the fsb oc than the speed/ voltage. If you try 12 X 202 it will probably be cooler. You may loose a little on your mem speed, but not much.
My reasoning is that the vregs tend to heat more as thier frequency is increased. This added heat is conducted directly to the chip, which then heats more.

I use only the finest crap for my cpu, that is artic silver 5. I have reinstalled that HSF soo many times that it is not funny. The neat thing with AS5 is it is very easy to remove and you dont have to use alcohol. I may take another stab at it but I am also in the proces of redesigning the airflow of my case to allow more cool air go directly to the cpu.

It would be a 5-7c drop with a tornado

True that and did try like 205x12 before and would not boot right. However Ill try a little more juice to see what happends as for temps.
