Question Why is my Old High End Gaming PC slow?

So I've got an Alienware 18 (2013), and I have reinstalled windows, and essentially, I virtually refurbished the Laptop (reinstalled windows completely, drivers, everything), so system wise its technically brand new.
I've also done some hardware dust clean up, opened up my laptop and cleaned it up.
My question here is, why is it that the old games I used to play (on the same laptop; the alienware) are now running extremely slow, sub 30 fps when it used to be well over 100 for the same games, and settings. Could it be that the inevietble hardware degradation is the root cause? Or is there something that I could do?

Specificatons:

• i7 4900-MQ @ 2.8 GHz
• 32 Gb Ram
• NVIDIA GTX 780M SLI

So, I assumed that laptops automatically turn off once temperatures rise above a given limit. But if thats not the case, either ways I havent checked temperatures. I'll try and do that right now

So I have checked the temps during gaming, and both the CPU and the GPU average at 70-80 C, with the CPU clocking at 3.7 GHz averagely. That is fine right? Or am I wrong?

The battery itself is of no use, but this was the case since 2015 or 16, it was still okay I just had to always keep laptop plugged in, and it did wounderful it was alright to be honest.

On temperature, the average is not what you want to look at.
If the temperature is too hot, like 100c. then the cpu will throttle and slow down until the issue is resolved.

Run HWmonitor or such while gaming.
Look to see if any core reaches 100c. or thereabouts.

So I have run the same game , (kept it as the same game throughout this discussion just to keep things consistent, but same applies to every other game). And I still reach 70-80 C in all cores. I cant figure out how to attach an image here without it being a link, but either ways. All 4 cores are at the 70-80 mark. (Highest was 84 for one of the cores)

Since your reinstalled the os have you made sure that the cards are set in SLI mode?

Yepp, it is set from within Nvidia's control panel to "Maximize 3D performance"
