Let's see. You have a general processor surrounded by a plethora of highly-specialized task-specific sub-processors built into pretty much every hardware device. These sub-processors handle so much that all the general processor has to worry about is the actual code. You've also got mostly single-threaded apps that will only utilize one general processor. So how, pray tell, will more processors accomplish anything? All that you'll have are more processors running idle.
NOT ALL BUT MOST, SINCE CPU`S ARE QUICKER THEY HAVE LESS REASON TO BE FRUGAL. THATS TO SAY I DON`T SEE A MARKED DIFFERENCE IN WINDOWS XP BUT IT SURE DOES TAKE MORE RESOURCES. THE SAME WITH A GAME LIKE HALF-LIFE, IT TAKES 10 TIMES MORE COMPUTING POWER BUT I CERTAINLY DON`T THINK THE GRAPHICS ARE 10 TIMES BETTER
So things like an NTFS file system, extremely better memory management, ten tonnes more networking protocols, a better virtual memory system, the ability to run low-resource background services, much more in the way of user management and personalization, a better registry system, transition effects, better hardware management, better driver management, larger icons with more color depth, transparent labels, system backup, etc. ad infinitum just don't exist to you. To you Windows XP is no better than Windows 95.
Just like HL2 has a much more realistic physics engine, larger maps, better AI, a much more interactive environment, smoother play, better sound, and even DX9 utilization, but all that you judge it by is how much better it looks on <i>your</i> system.
So then what you're saying then is that your problem is that you suffer from an extremely narrow vision. You never take the time to look under the hood. If it isn't blatantly obvious, then you just don't see it, and therefore you just assume that it just doesn't exist. And if it doesn't exist then everything must just be wasteful.
In case you weren't aware of this: your perception hardly constitutes the universe's reality.

Hardly. Until there's an actually beneficial point to multi-threading on a single-CPU machine (which there isn't), and so long as the vast majority of boxes have only one CPU, there won't be applications for it.
IF ONE BUILT A PC WITH WHAT I CALL "CAIC" CUMULATIVE ARRAY OF INEXPENSIVE CPU`S THE SOFTWARE WILL BE THERE AT SOME POINT.

Dual cores won't be out for months. Quad cores won't be out for years. It's still highly debatable if they'll even be worth it for anyone not running a workstation/server with multi-threaded software, just as the multi-CPU boxes of today are. Dualie mobos are generally expensive, and even more so for quads or eight ways. So good luck with supposedly saving money for crap multi-threaded performance and crap single-threaded performance. You go with that.
