Hello Everyone: I hope this is the right place for this question.

I am trying to correct an issue with using the built-in Chromecast on a Sony TV (Android 10). Sometimes I am able to cast from a Pixel 3XL (Android 12) t the TV, and sometimes it will not cast or mirror the screen. But in both cases, the Cast icon on the phone is either orange or red.

The TV and the Pixel phone are both on the same Wi-Fi network, and one of the things that troubleshooting guides frequently mention is: If your network has multiple bands (like 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), make sure both devices are on the same band. I have looked at the modem and I can see it is set to 2.4GHZ, and I can see the same (2.4GHz) on the Pixel Wi-Fi setting, but I cannot find anywhere on the Sony TV where I can see or change this setting.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Cheers,
Tony N.

The sony tv will have a network/internet section in settings. Whatever the modem wifi is set to as in 2.4 or 5ghz will apply to your preferred network. Turn off and delete all wifi connections on your external devices but leave the modem as is. Re-boot the modem and then connect to the correct network on each device and see how you go. Cheers.

Unless you tv is very old it should attempt to used the 5g radio first. You can force it if you set the 2.4 and 5 SSID different on your router. I always do this so I know what is connected to what.

Note google no longer sells/makes chromecast stuff...they have some new much more expensive product. Although they say they will continue to support it many companies say that and in couple year no longer provide updates so it will not work with the newer OS on phones and pc. I would start looking for a replacement even though you likely have a few years.

Hello Everyone: Thank you for replying to my questions about Wi-Fi, Casting, etc.

KingLoki: Thanks for your suggestion of the reset sequence for various Wi-Fi/network components associated with my Chromecast problem. I am used to troubleshooting computer issues, and I've tried everything I can think of in this case: restart/reset all hardware and software (several times), factory reset the TV, clear all caches, uninstall updates, rotate my tires. None of this has worked, but I will give your process a try in the next few days and see what happens.

bill001g: As far as which frequency is being used, the router status shows only the 2.4 GHz in use. (When I can figure out how to add an attachment, I will include a screenshot,)

lantis3: My TV is model: SONY XBR-43X800H

Cheers. . .
