Hey guys i recently bought a new gaming rig for myself.
the specs are as follows:
Core i5 2400 3.1 GHz
ASUS P8Z68 VLx Mobo
8 GB DDR3 Kingston Hyper X
ASUS HD7850 DCUII 2GB
1TB WD Blue
600W Great wall 80+ modular PSU
lite on dvd burner
D-link DWA 525 wireless Pci-e card.
cooler master USP 100
23" Phillips monitor :sol:

My apt has only wifi and no ethernet connection also i can only connect one component as only one is allowed per room.

My wifi card usually works very good with downloading speeds of @ 1MBps but as soon as any game is launched or i start to watch a movie stored on my hdd the speed suddenly goes down and many a times it disconnects, this is also happening when i launch a you tube video. :ouch:

But as soon as i close the game or movie or youtube video i regain my speed instantly or if its disconnected it gets connected.

I have checked the power requirements of my config on various sites and it is around 450W so i have enough headroom in case of PSU. so what really is the problem i am not able to understand.

Can anyone pls help?????

Solution
So if you close your game, or youtube, how do you know that you "regain your speed"? Are you simply going by how many connection bars your wifi signal shows?

What is your signal strength?

I would say try another wireless connection but probably not the easiest thing to do.

Your wireless card has a "Ralink RT3060" chipset driving the wifi, I'm not sure if you've tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers for your wireless card but i would recommend that you download a new set of drivers (Do this part first!!) and then completely uninstall the wireless drivers and install these new drivers. If you tried this, Grab the actual ralink drivers instead of the D-Link manufacturers drivers for your card as these are probably newer...

http://www.ralinktech.com/en/04_support/support.php?sn=500

Your 306X chipset driver is the 4th one down on the list, labeled as:
PCI/mPCI/CB(RT2860/RT2760/RT2890
RT2790/RT306X/RT309X/RT35X2/RT539X

or: Try this link, not sure if it will work without session cookies but :
http://www.ralinktech.com/en/04_support/license.php?sn=5000

If this does nothing for you, Honestly i'd recommend either finding a better signal location by using a laptop to track the signal, or a cellphone with wifi and attempt to try. If it is a signal strength issue, Your d-link uses rp-sma connections for your current wifi card which means that you could get a higher gain omni-directional antenna to replace the one you have now which is 2dbi. Here is a link to a 9dbi gain antenna that will work without any adapters/connectors:
http://www.amazon.com/Omnidirectional-High-Gain-Antenna-dBi-RP-SMA/dp/B0030M2KR6

If you know the source of the wireless, where the closest Access Point is located, you can try a Directional Antenna (I use multiple 15dbi gain antennas directed accordingly for a wireless link to a neighbors house about 100 yards away with full signal, so when used properly they can be very effective)

If its not a signal issue, then its a network card/driver issue so next i would be running to bestbuy to get a new wireless card to try out. You can get a simple USB one to try and then upgrade to a much stronger PCI card if deteremined this is the problem.

Can you test another device next to yours such as a friends laptop wireless signal?

thnks for your reply !!!
ok i had earlier connected my laptop to the same router to which my pc is connected now , i m telling that my speed reduces bcos i was watching my speed on speed monitor installed in pc. when i was using my laptop this problem never happened .
on pc this was earlier happening for any graphic related application like game or movie or youtube video.
today i just formatted my c drive and freshly installed a new copy of win 7 ultimate and updated new drivers .
the problem is still there but now i was only able to check for youtube and movies .
Youtube it still exists it is so dominant that as soon as i launch any video on youtube it straight away drops to 0 and disconnects and as soon sa i close that web page it is back on line.
i have checked the actual speed both time with the software "netspeedmonitor".
as i m staying in an apartment only one device is allowed to connect and also i cant connect via lan.
my router is located in the range of around 5 m with just my door in between
I have directed my antenna towards it.
as for speeds are concerned i m having pretty good speed rest of time @ 1MBps but the problem is only persistant with graphic application.

I would be looking for a wifi router next week so can you suggest me one????

@ username-taken!
yeah right this is a weird problem!!!
but i guess this is not the first time i have done a lot of searching on net and came across similar problems but no where the solution was found .
some mentioned the problem should be bcos of the psu , like that.
as for borrowing the thing is i just moved to bangkok from india and i dont know much ppl around here so that would be difficult.
I would probably buy a new card but what should be it?

I would really try the ralink page for a new driver to try out, When you did the reinstall, did you use the disc that came with the wireless card or did you download drivers from d-link website?

It really should make no difference in your actual throughput or signal when your using video acceleration, very odd!

@jgutz
I updated my drivers from the ralink site yesterday night
however in device manager my card still shows up as dwa-525 dlink drivers
may this is what it was supposed to be but somehow i was able to play mw2 altough with a very high ping of @600-700 .
But the problem with youtube stil remains
I can download youtube videos @1MBps but cant stream them at all because as soon as i open video my speed firstly jumps very high and then suddenly falls to zero.
thanks to you i can atleast somewhat play the game
so is this a good think ( i mean can it be solved without buying a new hardware???)

ok , so i went ahead and bought ASUS N13 USB wireless adapter, and my problems got worse!!!
i was not able to achieve any speed !!!!!
my ping while playing mw2 if at all i was able to join a server was 999 and also downloading speed were very less down to 100KBps !!
Is it a problem of my motherboard???
I doubt about it still!!!
Also has SMPS (PSU) got to do with any of this??
Pls guys i need u r help!!!
