Looking for a possible fix before I buy new RAM. My son wants to play the new Hogwarts Legacy game which requires 16Mb, but his PC only has 8. I have some Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200Mhz sticks from an old build lying around and wonder if they will work with the B460 Comet Lake Motherbaord. I see online that it only supports a maximum of 2933Mhz, but would this memory still work? Backwards compatible so to speak? The processor is an I5 10400F

B460 is the chipset, could you please state the make and model of the motherboard?

Using this motehrboard as a baseline;
Intel® Core™ i9/i7 processors:
Support for DDR4 2933/2666/2400/2133 MHz
Intel® Core™ i5/i3/Pentium®/Celeron® processors:
Support for DDR4 2666/2400/2133 MHz
4 x DDR4 DIMM sockets supporting up to 128 GB (32 GB single DIMM capacity) of system memory
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for ECC Un-buffered DIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8 memory modules (operate in non-ECC mode)
Support for non-ECC Un-buffered DIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8/1Rx16 memory modules
Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules
The i5 you're looking at;
https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...-12m-cache-up-to-4-30-ghz/specifications.html
will only go as far as DDR4-2666MHz.

Unfortunately I don't know the name of the motherboard as it was bought in a local electrnonics shop and it was prebuilt. I can't find anyting on the case as to what it is. The PC is a Lenovo Ideacenter G5. I know the memory won't work at 3200Mhz, but would the PC run it at the maximum memory speed if I installed them? If you do a search for that PC it states the memory speed is 2933Mhz

Is this it

?
If so then that table for the processors would state your maximum ram frequency supported - which is DDR4-2666Mhz.

No. The Integrated Memory Controller(IMC) will only go as far as 2666Mhz, per the table in page 2 of the URL above.
