[SOLVED] Will a new mobo and cpu be sufficient???

Hello,

I had a question regarding a rebuild or upgrade. I have a fairly old system running an i7 4790k, with a maximus hero vii mother board, 16gb ram and a gtx 1080ti.

It's really slowing down when doing photo editing especially with large files in photoshop. Gaming is taking a hit too.

Would throwing 16gb more ram in there fix some issues for me or is it worth it to just get a new mobo and cpu and use the 1080ti. I'm not even sure if they have new ram for this mobo any more? In not the best at this stuff and really need to fix my computer slowing down like crazy.

You definitely would want to upgrade your processing power considering that CPU was discontinued in 2017. If you have the budget to upgrade to a current gen MOBO so you can also get a current gen CPU then that should help a lot with your 16GB of RAM. The 1080ti is an older card, but still okay with current gaming. You probably couldn't put everything on ultra in the latest games, but at least get some good visuals and game experience with it is considering the difficulties of getting a GPU these days. Keep your eyes on the market for GPUs when they start to normalize and get easier to get cards then upgrade.

But to answer your question I would definitely increase your CPU power. That seems to be your bottleneck for Graphics Designs and Gaming.

Im from Canada. Budget for a whole build or just the mobo and cpu? Roughly 2500 for a full build most likely.

That's awesome thanks for providing those. Out of curiosity, are this generation of i5's able to keep up with the demands of all these editing programs and stuff? That's one of the reasons I went with an i7 back in the day too.

The 11 gen i5 has 6 cores and 12 threads. You'd get better performance from an i7 which is 8 cores and 16 threads. The i7 11700F/11700 has pretty good benches.
