Will a Shure PG48 Mic work with a usb connection to a PC? If not, what should I do?

I got a Shure PG48 Microphone (discontinued) several years ago. I have never had a use for it until now. I want to use it as my PC mic, but my laptop doesn't have a jack for one. All that leaves is usb. However, I don't know if this mic will simply work if I buy an xlr to usb adapter. The mic might not even support it.
So I guess my question is, should I buy the adapter and try it? I also have an xlr to 3.5mm adapter already, so should I buy a 3.5mm to usb instead? Should I cut my losses and buy a cheap usb mic? Do I have any other options?

Solution

All laptops have one. On rare occasion they use TRRS rather than two TRS, and in that case all you need is 2 TRS to TRRS adapter cable you can buy for $6. Read your laptop's manual

Okay well I assume it has TRRS, but doesn't that cable seriously reduce quality for both the mic and headset?

How can it? It's no different than any other extension cable. If it wears down it might start having issues, but that won't happen for years, and when it does, you can just spend another $6 and boom, no more problems.

Well I would tend to agree, but I saw on two different "audiophile" sites that a direct connection will give you better quality. I guess I will never know.

And some of those same audiophiles probably picked the coat hanger over the $100 cables too... Yes direct connections are better, but we're talking such small differences that even $5000+ sensing rigs would not detect the difference.

Alright I'll take your word for it. Thanks for your help.

Alright now I have one final question, sorry for being a bother. My mic is xlr. So if i buy the cable and use an xlr to 3.5mm to plug into the cable, that should work right?

Your mic is a dynamic mic, which needs no additional power, so it should work. The questions after that is whether it needs an additional pre-amp or not, however that is something you will have to search online for (or test, the splitter is only a few bucks and will help with other dynamic mics if you ever get a different one)
