You will most likely need a BIOS upgrade, but according to Intel's documentation it's out of support...

Yes, he will in some old model boards because of the PCIe 2.0 to 3.0 jump and other improvements. He wont need a bios update to run a GPU.

Depends on when was the last BIOS upgrade they put out in the wild. My girlfriend's Asus P8Z77-V had it's last update around 2013, which I needed to upgrade to the RX-590 I bought for her in... 2017? I can't really remember. The MOBO is out of support? So, therefore, I don't need to upgrade BIOS?

Long story short, if you've never upgraded the BIOS and the GPU just doesn't work, this might be the reason why.

That is the theory. So basically if my BIOS is at the latest version I can buy it and it will work fine and if not I just need to update it and it will work perfectly as well?
That is the theory.
If you want first hand experience reassurance, I do not have it.

It wasn't my and other's experience though. The PC would not boot until I upgraded the BIOS.It will still work with an older version of the bios. The worst case is it will run in PCIe 2.0, which is still more than enough bandwidth for a 1660ti.
