Hi

I recently built a PC with below configuration.
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X
MB: ASUS PRIME A320M-K/CSM AMD AM4 uATX motherboard
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 550W,80+ White 230V
RAM: CORSAIR CMK8GX4M1A2400C16R DESKTOP RAM VENGEANCE LPX SERIES 8GB
GPU: 1060(3GB)

Did i do a right thing to get a 2700x instead of Ryzen 5 3600? Am i going to suffer in long run. Plus i did not buy a gpu with this configuration I have been using gtx 1060 from my other build with this build. I am planning to get a 3070 in comming months, will my PC be able to handle it? Any suggestions will be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Thanks for your reply. I am currently using a "CORSAIR CMK8GX4M1A2400C16R DESKTOP RAM VENGEANCE LPX SERIES 8GB (8GBX1) DDR4 2400MHZ RED", do you suggest getting one more 8gb stick ? I would try to get a 650W PSU with the configuration once the situation improves. I dont want to risk damaging the components while i try playing some of the AAA titles.

Running 2400mhz ram reduces performance on any ryzen, only to the extent of 5-7% but the fact you're only running one stick will put that perfoemance deficit to 20% or so.

Its not the end of the world, as long as you're running a 60-75htz screen but ryzen loves fast memory for better overall performance.

But yes that ram could do with upgrading to 2 x 8gb anyway, newer aaa...

Ryzen 5 3600 is one of the best processor for price ever , still the 2700x compete , but 3070 with the 2700x you're not gonna have the experience that this monster gpu wants you to have

Sounds like you need to do some homework!

You should be "okay" with regards to the power limit but as with everything your mileage may vary.

Nvidia has a recommended wattage for PSU on the 3070 at 650w and the rated wattage is 220w
AMD state that the 2700x is rated for a TDP of 105W (but it can and will use more)
Your power supply is 80 plus standard (80% or greater efficiency)

If you math in your current processor and the efficiency of the current PSU then you come in under the 550w limit.
At least with it being a name brand it should be rated for 550w continuous load and not instantaneous load.
In most cases they are able to handle a tad over their rated amount but only in very short bursts. (think 50w)
If not then they will just shutdown with over-voltage protection.
Furthermore according to the details it appears it can give out nearly 100% of its rated value on the 12v rail.

105+220=325w ~ roughly 60% capacity ~ estimated PSU efficiency of 90%
Actual draw will be around 361w

Now this doesn't take into account any hard drives or fans etc or maximum wattage of the components.
There should be reviews of hardware around with these numbers (worst case)
Of course you'll have to wait for 3000 series testing by reviewers.

Ok, what GPU do you suggest? I am not a hardcore gamer, but i do play quite a few AAA titles. I have my eyes on Cyberpunk2077, Fifa21, AC Valhalla..etc.

Thanks for the detailed summary, I do have a 1tb HDD, and one preinstalled fan nothing apart from that. I do have some plans on storage expansion, but that can wait. Current priority is GPU with this build.

I disagree, the 2700x is a good cpu, you could pair whatever gpu you want with it.

That psu though is an issue when you're running an expensive new gpu, power wise it's enough but quality wise it's pretty poor.

It needs replacing along with the GPU really.

What's that ram configuration you're running because the code is saying its a single 8gb stick.

2400mhz single channel is going to hold any ryzen cpu back a lot performance wise!!

To play cyber punk fifa & ac valhalla Id sugest you buy the 3070 coming september 17 , Keep the same cpu , because its a good one , And if after , you dont like what you see , just upgrade to a 4th gen Processor from amd coming in october

But yes that ram could do with upgrading to 2 x 8gb anyway, newer aaa titles are pushing between 6 and 10gb ram usage now , 8gb isn't really enough any more.

Shame the gigabyte 650 was oos when you built, that would have been a fairly solid psu and could have handled just about any gpu.

Thanks for helping me figure out, otherwise i would have no clue. I would get a new RAM stick for my Ryzen Processor. Also, i shall see, what can be done with the PSU, not sure if i can exchange it.
