I just replaced my laptop memory with a single DDR SoDimm, and it won't boot or even post off the new memory module.

My question is what happens if the new memory is larger than what's compatible? Should it boot, but not be able to fully address the extra storage, or will it just fail to post altogether.

I'm asking because again, the new memory module is some cheapo brand and I'm not sure if the memory is plain bad, or if it is possibly larger than what's compatible with the laptop.

Thanks for the reply. I did test with only one stick of the previous memory, which worked successfully. So I'm fairly sure it doesn't need dual channel capabilities.

Thanks. I pulled out the original Corsair, double sided sticks. 512MB divided by 16 chips is 32MB per chip.

I think I'll order a pair of 512MB sticks soon.

Before you order the pair of 512mb sticks, check your laptop manual or do some research about the laptop's memory section.

Does that mean that 1Gb stick isn't working and out of specs for your laptop?

I did try looking up this information. However, there were 3 different model numbers stickers on this laptop and I was having problems finding documentation.

I did just figured out which model is correct and found that 512MB modules are the largest compatible modules.

Thanks for everyone's help.
