my build is
- 990FX UD-3 mobo
- 2 geforce GTX 550Ti SLI'd
- 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM
- GS600 watt corsair PSU
- AMD fx 4100 3.6 GHz CPU

my PC is strictly for gaming, thats all I do on there. If I upgrade to the AMD phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz would it make that much of a difference? I keep researching and people have different things to say about both.

I play WoW on ultra and battlefield 3 on high/ultra with no lag.

Do you already have this build?

If so, there's no need to "upgrade" to the phenom x4 965. I put upgrade in quotes simply because it's truly a waste of money if you already have the FX 4100. It would be more of an upgrade if you grabbed the FX 6300 or one of the new Piledriver CPUs. Even the FX 4300 would be a more cost effective upgrade.

Even then, I would still recommend you just stick with your current processor until you can afford to make the jump to sandy or ivy bridge.

the only upgrade that will significantly raise your fps is an intel build. i assume you play multiplayer and it sounds like you havent been told that bf3 multiplayer is EXTREMELY cpu bound in 64 player maps. you will get at least 20-30% better fps with an intel cpu mainly an i5 3570k or better BUT i know you dont want to go intel for some odd reason....?

i agree if i had to choose the lesser of the evils it would be a piledriver cpu.
