LMAO Happy words all over the screen? Happy Slide show?

It doesn't even make sense. 😉 I like Windows 7, but that commercial was just pretty sad in my opinion. Really didn't say anything. Just a 4 year old girl obsessed with using the word "Happy" to describe everything. 😉

[citation][nom]Curnel_D[/nom]That's what the MSDN, Tech-net, and action pack programs are for. It's very very hard to advertise to enthusiasts and industry professionals because we want real information, not flashy veneers pasted over things to make it look hip and exciting. Any information they can pack into a 30 second ad will either be very shallow, or very vague. Compared to the level of knowledge an enthusiast wants or has, it's a waste of time.[/citation]

It wouldn't be an entire waste of time if you can insight people to check out the more specific details of your product. MS lost a decent amount of business with Vista so not everyone is exactly going out of their way to read on MS products.

Wow what a dumb promo. I don't know about you guys, and I really hope this doesn't come out racist, but have you all noticed that almost all tech commercials have little Asians girls as their poster child. I first noticed with the Cisco commercials and there were a bunch of others too. Maybe, not only are the people who are making the products are getting outsourced, so is their marketing department.

[citation][nom]SAL-e[/nom]This comment and the +20 makes me really sad. Public display in prejudice does not help. Actually make situation worst. If any of you feel offended by the Microsoft you should pick up your phone and call them. Tell them that you disapprove their marketing and you are refusing to buy their product. That is the only way you can make difference. Shouting on the streets or on the Internet only puts more oil in the fire.[/citation]

I don't think the person was trying to be racist or show prejudices. He/she was pointing out the affirmative action that takes place in Microsoft's (and other companies like it) marketing strategies. It would make sense for a company located in a country that has a majority caucasian population to have a similarly majority caucasian presence in its commercials.

I think the they're just trying to prove to the consumers that windows isn't for the "professional, businessman" the way apple portrayed it, showing the girl that it's user-friendly to all, also what r0x0r said seemed relevant too

Why are people commenting on the girl obviously being told to say lines or that she obviously didn't make the slideshow? I don't believe Microsoft was trying to convince us that this girl went online and found quotes and made a slide show using the final countdown as a theme song anymore than etrade expects us to believe a baby is trading online.

Its a fun ad that lets MS high light positive reviews from critics and nothing more.

[citation][nom]aznguy0028[/nom]I think M$ made a very good approach in this campaign. They are addressing all the negativity of Apple Ads towards Vista during it's life, such as stability, ease of use, virues, speed security...etc. Good start/marketing if i do say so myself[/citation]

Well it's not like they can attack Apple directly on that front...at least not in a 30 second spot.

That ad sucks. Seriously, it seems that they're marketing Windows 7 to little girls. Windows 7, because Mac doesn't have cute ponies, rainbows, and princesses!

[citation][nom]RichR[/nom]Really? That's what comes to your mind when watching this?Seeing how at least 20 other people support this statement, that shows how much "white" people have serious issues about race. I kind of feel sad for you guys living in this changing world. It might seem scary at first but, if you open your hearts and minds a little, you'll understand that we'll inevitably become a world of mix races and it will be alright. Stop fighting it and let evolution take its course.[/citation]

You guys gotta chill. I was just making an observation and you're trying to twist it into some sort of racism.

Since the photoshopped ad that put a black man's face on a white man's body (or visa-versa.. I forget), I happened to just take note of some of the ads that are posted here as news.

No big deal. Don't read too far into it.

Well, I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your message but you have to accept that mentioning race about an ad starring a cute little girl is not normal. It's not like they had rappers performing in front of a project. This fixation on race has to fade out at some point. Also, I had to say something when I saw 20+ thumbs up! It's time to see people as human beings living on the same planet! By the way, Microsoft had plenty of white people saying "I'm a PC" and it was a white person's head photoshoped on a black man's body so there isn't much to complain about, is there? I'm not accusing you of being a racist, I'm just shedding a light on the importance most people still place on race. That's all...

I like how they focus in on the review saying "Windows is stable...smooth and highly polished" as if to say Windows Vista and XP weren't. Gee, I'd hope my OS is stable. What a great idea and selling point! If that is their strongest argument for why we should buy Windows 7, they better fire their ad agency.

I wonder if we'll ever see another white person in a commercial for an American based company or product.

Cute little girl, though.

Adam you are so right. White people are NO WHERE TO BE SEEN on TV. All the commercials are to people of color. I mean its like for the 50 years the media have ignore that people of color exist, all of a sudden they want to put them on TV or in the White House. It not like we are all human and it should make NO DIFFERENCE who is in the commercial. I mean honestly, what was Microsoft thinking! It people like you who notice that they are not represented in EVERY SINGLE advertising spot any more that make the world go round. /Sarcasm Filter OFF

The AD is targeted to the people who hated Vista, didn't like Vista or "heard" that Vista sucked donkey balls.

In comparison, Win7 *IS* more polished than Vista. I don't think the AD is targeting XP users... unless its referring the the "stability", but I'd trust my Core2Quad WinXP system over a Vista box easily.

*I* don't like vista. I had to work on a Vista box last week and it was not fun. Win7RC runs great on my notebook, better than XP=Pro that it came with... and only using 1GB of RAM.

That's not what he's talking about people. Caucasians today are swiftly becoming the minority in just about everything in the public eye. Including advertising. Companies have started to care more about political correctness over the product itself. And if a burly white guy happens to be the one that can get a message across most effectively, I'd much rather see him then some 12 year old Asian or 35 year old curly haired beaming black woman, neither of which could give less of a damn about the product. Hell, I seriously know a girl who just got booted from her high school cheer leading squad, because they had too many white girls and not enough black, so they threw in some overweight loudmouth black girl in her place, despite apparent skill. And as far as commercials go, the last time I seen a white guy telling me what was important is on the stock market channel. And I imagine it's only because no one could bore someone to tears quite like he could.

So he and I are on the same page. We couldn't care any less about race, but seriously.... Political correctness couldn't vacuum more.

I don't think the little girl (brilliant or not) is capable of creating the slideshow presented half-way through the ad. A child would not have chosen music like that, would not be capable of effectively using the effects, and would not have the vocabulary to understand what's presented in that "slideshow."
I'm sure that "Kelly" is a bright girl, but that presentation is that of an adult (especially one with a great deal of experience in graphics & presentations), not a child whose vocabulary and motor skills seem to closely match her apparent age. To believe she is that capable is to toss aside all logic, and to imply that she could do that is false advertising. Hmmm... Oh, yeah, it's Microsoft.
