Hi all, I am upgrading my PC and I use it only for video games. So far I have decided to purchase this motherboard:

With this ram: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-440&depa=1

This MB and RAM will work together, correct? My only other problem is deciding on a CPU. I am looking at these two:

What is different about newcastle v winchester cores? I don't overclock much, so that isn't an issue. What would be the ideal processor? Thanks!

Good choices on both the board and RAM... I really like the Corsair Value Select line since it's a great bang-for-the-buck.

The difference in the processors is the .13 Micron process of the Newcastle core versus the newer .09 Micron process on the Winchester. From what I've read, the new Winchesters do just fine and overclock better. The Winchesters also don't seem to have the massive heat problems that Intel struggled with when they went to .09 Micron with their Prescotts.

I notice Newegg wants $25 more for the Winchester... so you've gotta figure out if it's worth it to you to have the newer core.

If u dont want to o/c just get the newcastle and save yourself the 25 bucks. They are the exact same speed and both run very cool.

Well i will say this, they are correct. if you don't OC then you would want the cheaper of the two.

Then again the Winchester is so easily overclocked to such high marks its hard to overlook. From what i hear its not uncommon to get a 3000+ winchester up to A64fx-53 speeds. Which is quite significant. If i was in the market right now i would go for thwe inchester and overclock it. 5-10% isn't worth learning to OC for.....but 25% is.

I think the winchester core is a better deal. They tend to draw 30 watts less power, so you can make up the difference on your power bill. You also have a chip that is not warming up your room so much, and can run with the fan set at a lower speed.
