Question Windows 10 PC freezes randomly, still able to move mouse cursor ?

Hello, my PC has been having issues where it freezes randomly. "Randomly" as in when I alt-tab into chrome or another app, the app becomes unresponsive and then my entire screen just freezes, but I can still hear sound from opened apps. I'm able to un-freeze my desktop by doing a random combination of ctrl-alt-tabbing and then giving my power button a quick click. When my PC is unfrozen, I'm not able to open up any of my tabs because they're all unresponsive. I can't open task manager, nor use the w10 popup to end the apps process. The problem started ever since the most recent w10 update (last update before 6/18).

If it freezes use ctrl-alt-delete and you will be able to access the task manager. You can then close out the offending application.

Tried that, but task manager doesn't open.

Perhaps go in to device manager and one by one Item update eachdevice driver manually.

Did that. Most of the drivers didn't detect any new versions to upgrade to. Task manager and other apps still hang completely randomly after opening an app. I did notice that my usb connected ssds disconnect after a bunch of apps start to hang/freeze randomly. Could this issue be related to ssds connected via a usb adapter?

So I would unplug all your non os drives from usb. Then see if the freezing stops. If it does then you probably have an offending hd. Add a drive one by one until you find the offending hd.

I'll give that a try, but again, the issue happens completely randomly. One app starts being unresponsive, then everything else doesn't want to load or open. Due to the absolute randomness of the problem, finding the cause through the process of elimination may be ineffective.

You have to troubleshoot what you can, you are using alot of hd's, I would eliminate them. Hve you run scannow to check your win files?

Yeah, and it's probably bad that two of them are running off usb adapters instead of sata cables. I've done scannow not too long ago. The scan found a few integrity violations and fixed them, but I'm guessing those integrity violations weren't related to the issue.

Also try cleaning your registry. Normal setting with app. WiseCleaner Downloads - Download Free Registry Cleaner, Download Free Disk Cleaner, Download Wise Care 365

Here's a picture of what I'm seeing on my end. Basically everything not opening or not responding. "End process" doesn't close the non responding app. Hopefully this picture could help narrow down what the cause could be. I'll give the registry cleaner a try, thank you.

You know i didn't catch it originally but why is your memory running at 1466mhz? That could be your problem. Try using xmp to set it to proper speeds. I beleive that ram should operate at 3000mhz.

In the bios, it says its running

My bios says that my ram is running at 2933mhz. I learned from another post that I created a while ago, that apparently task manager doesn't show your full speed. You'd have to use a 3rd party program to get your rams actual speed.

Ok so go in to computer management, and look under critical events tab. See if it gives you any information about any problems it detected.

Where's the critical events tab? Unless critical events are under event viewer>w10 logs>system, then I got it. In the system section in the event viewer, there's an event that says "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort2, was issued," Also, "The IO operation at logical block address 0x4dfda8 for Disk 2 (PDO name: \Device\00000048) was retried."

Both happened multiple times yesterday when my computer locked up.

The issue could be my PSU not being able to handle two more ssds that I have running through data to USB 3.0 adapters.

Yes so looks like you may have a problem with disk 2 perhaps is it in a raid configuration? What disk has the os on it?

How do I find out the disks/ssds number? My OS is installed on my data su655.

Go in to disk management ansd see how they are listed.
