Of course a company that makes software that "speeds up" your OS will say that. And how do they simulate 6 months of usage on BETA SOFTWARE!!! They are so ....ing stupid it kills me out Tomshardware even puts this shit out.

If the average computer user wasn't an idiot they would know monthly maintenance on a computer is like a car. You have to defrag your harddrive, delete old unused programs and files, and run a diskcheck. Just like you would do an oil change and a tuneup. But because everyone expects it to just "work" they get disappointed then blab on how it sucks when in fact they are the retards...

That's just my take on this whole thing.

On AVG, my WinXP re-install was about 1-2 years... usually during an CPU/Mobo upgrade.

every OS no matter how good will start to slow down w/ added cookies, codecs, ect.
Its impossible w/ our current technology for it not to

Not quite. Windows OS is the still the messiest OS in the world since Win95. The Registry is proof of that. On older OSs like AmigaOS, Applications didn't hook into the OS, but then again support for video card upgrades weren't there either.

But anyways, if you wanted to remove an application, you simply deleted the folder and its "shortcut". There was and still NO shut-down command. Just turn it off. AmigaOS today still does that. Boot up time is under 10 seconds with 2002 type performance tech.

[citation][nom]ubernoobie[/nom]How about if you defrag every month? I've been using vista 1 year so bear and i get no noticable increase, 1second> if harddrive defragged[/citation]

It's not just about this, but you have to clear the startup programs in the Startup folder and the Registry, also you have to clear the cached up content that Windows loads on bootup (that accelerates commonly used programs load up times) and such.

I think I have had a chance to have my own testing period run for a long time. I have had Windows 7 on an OCZ Agility SSD for 7 months and from the moment I press the power button, through the BIOS, past the POST and Windows 7 loads up and I can actually start using it - 35 seconds. I have variations of +/-2 seconds but I am sure that is temperature of the room or phases of the moon or some other random shit, but in every previous version of Windows I have used, all the way back to Windows 95 that have degredated over time, I see no such slowing down either in booting or in actual usage for Windows 7.

Scenario 1 - Slowing down previously was not the fault of the OS, it was spinning hard drives, as the new system has an SSD.
Scenario 2 - Slowing down previously was the fault of the OS, changing to Win 7 has stopped this occuring.

Neither scenario shows Windows 7 slowing down but scenario 1 does throw a spanner in the works and I would be tempted to test running Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP and Vista on SSD for 6 months to benchmark the theory. Watch this space, unless you already have results then tell us all...
