I really laughed my arse of when i read
It's like Jägermeister without the hangover afterwards - which is revolutionary.
however thats the one analogie i agree with if only because its just clear enough for any to understand!

2k was not close imho it rises above any windows version though since it is way to outdated that can only be said looking back not in a real world head to head comparison.
However they took way more time and service packs to get it up there so i have high hopes for 7.

And yes it would be great if people just wrote english and dropped the 1337 act specially if they are that transparant.

[citation][nom]hemelskonijn[/nom]Let me add that if you get passed the 1337 attitude Ossie has going on he does have some valid points.[/citation]
To be hoest I didn't even bother reading his last post. I did try, but gave up. My time's too valuable for that kind of person.

ps. win 2k was really good imo, but it lacked one very important thing: fast boot time. It simply isn't acceptable that it takes twice as long to boot a win2k on a lowend pc as it does xp - xp is slower at shutting down, but that is rarely a concern for the user.

I work at an educational facility, and computers that boot slowly aren't good, cause students might only have 15 minutes to go check facebook or whatever they want to do.

Apple has had over 20 years to try and push more penetration into the mainstream market. It's market share sits at approx 5% worldwide. That figure changes at such excruciating increments it must be infuriating that Linux has jumped to such high levels with no marketing, no classy hardware, no sales off the back of mp3 players or phones.

If there ever was an OS war then Windows won it nearly 15 years ago, since then everytime an Apple fanboy opens his mouth it's like the Germans saying, "So what if we lost WW2, we make great cars". Deal with it.

[citation][nom]ssalim[/nom]Numbers don't lie.[/citation]
Fuckin-A!!!!!
The only people who use Mac are existing Mac users.
Apple has had ample opportunity to steal market share and gain percentage points but has done nothing but get a big fat FAIL.
Windows ME - Where was the big Apple user increase?
Windows Vista - Where was the big Apple user increase?
If they couldn't gain in the face of such obvious crap from Microsoft, what chance do they have against Windows 7. And dont give me all that crap about all the PCs that have been manufactured having Windows 7 installed, you could run OSX on a newly built PC if you really wanted to, but as it is if you want to run OSX you dont just spend a few bucks on the install disk, you have to buy the bundled hardware.

Here's the deal, I have a 4 year old PC, it has XP on it. I want to upgrade my OS. Apple OSX looks really good but Steve Jobs wont let me run it, I have to spend £1200 on an iMac as well and throw my PC in the bin or eBay it for next to nothing. Alternatively, I could go into PC World and buy the upgrade disk for £70.
£1200 vs £70 - No contest, buy Windows 7.

If the Apple marketing team had any sense, they would allow OSX to run on an hardware. It is cheaper to buy than Windows 7 so cost will pull in some customers. Over time, if it is as good as the zealots claim then when the end user comes to upgrade his 4 year old hardware, he may buy Apple hardware, if not they will still have sold an OS.

The problem with Apple forcing you to have hardware and software is it is an "all or nothing" deal, so 95% of the world says, "nothing" as the upgrade path is cheaper and easier with a PC combined with a Windows or Linux OS. Apples inflexible apporach to sales is its own worst enemy.

I'm surprised so many of you actually think Apple has been trying to overtake Microsoft for dominant market share.

It's true, Apple wants to grow it's market share (and they're doing that) but they don't plan on or want to be the dominant OS. Apple understands that a lot of the advantages their OS offers are due to a smaller market share, and just like the makers of all "premium" products, a certain level of exclusivity is desired.

Plain and simple, Apple's stock price is over $200/share. They and Google are the definitive successful tech stocks and have made their investors (which include all of you Windows fanbois w/ retirement accounts) more $$ than Microsoft ever did at it's peak in the '90s.

[citation][nom]mrmez[/nom]Why is M$ so worried about OSX?Mac's make up ~10% of the market. Its like me beating someone 10 times smaller then saying "yeah, look at me, the big tough man"OSThat being said M$ should be worried. Its been losing market share to Mac.http://successfulsoftware.files.wo [...] 7_2008.png[/citation]

Yea but when the little guy keeps claiming "Windows 7 release will spur Mac convertors" and its total 100% BS garbage it tends to annoy the guy that sets in the corner not talking crap about the little guys product.

Mac has a commercial claiming millions of PC users are converting to Mac, even with Windows 7.

Absolute fucking bullshit
If I offered Steve the chance to swap 10% for 90% he would take my arm off.

Yeah, you are full of absolute fucking bullshit.
If you offered Steve the chance to swap 10% for 90%, he would take more than your arm off; but Apple's business plan isn't to take 90% or even 50% of market share.

You don't cater to the broke masses when you sell a 'premium' product. Like it or not, Apple's computers have always been a status symbol and you can't provide 'status' if you sell cheap kitsch to everyone. Apple's business plan (and yes, I have a copy for every year since 1999) is to sell computers to the middle class and up only. If you can't afford, they don't care. But all the working class in the world and even you, back_by_demand, can own a piece of the Apple trend by buying an iPod and toying around iTunes in Windowzzzz.
LOL

[citation][nom]neiroatopelcc[/nom]So win 7 is revolutionary. It's the first time that microsoft made an os that works out of the box in a corporate enviroment.[/citation]
That's because for all intents and purposes, it's a service pack for Vista. It's built off the exact same code with relatively minor changes. Vista was an overhaul of the Windows OS, Win 7 is not. If Win 7 did not work out of the box with base code that is already 2 years old, I'd be wondering what was going on over at Redmond. It's not revolutionary to have something work out of the box. It's expected. If you really think it's revolutionary for it to work, then that says alot about Windows.

After watching the new MAC commercial where the Windows guy runs to join the MAC upgrade line I laughed so hard I almost cried. Come on! are they implying that all current and future MAC owners are followers than leaders? Never mind they forgot to mention that a good number of your files on your Windows machine will NOT transition over smoothly to MAC. Further you need to re purchase MAC versions of the same software you already own like MS Office to use it on the MAC. Maybe they are getting cold feet as they are seeing the impending doom coming to be making such ridiculously deceptive commercials.

Lighten up, the Mac commercials are hilarious even if they are full of BS.

[citation][nom]wildwell[/nom] Like it or not, Apple's computers have always been a status symbol and you can't provide 'status' if you sell cheap kitsch to everyone.[/citation]
If by status synbol you mean expensive and good looking then they are.
They dont work faster than equivalently priced Windows PCs, however.
Anyone can buy a case that looks as good or better, Lian-Li have been doing it for years, did you think Apple had a patent on using aluminium or white cases? Even lots of 'vanilla' cases out there look as good or better, same with the monitors.

So that only leaves the cost, and if they cost more but deliver less performance that only means one thing, they are overpriced. Cost would reduce if they were able to mass produce, but being stuck at 5% it's not going to happen.

All the shit that you keep spouting about Apple's business model is to work with what it has, they want more but they cant get it because they can only convince 5% of the world that their expensive shit is worth buying.

Now if you will excuse me, i'm going to play COD MW2 for a bit, Apple users can join me in about a year, maybe never...

[citation][nom]wildwell[/nom]I'm surprised so many of you actually think Apple has been trying to overtake Microsoft for dominant market share.[/citation]
And I never said overtake as dominant, but do you think in the face of ME and Vista, they should at least be up to 20% or more? A Ferrari is a status symbol, it costs a lot but I can leave you in the dust at the lights. I dont want to pay Ferrari prices but get stiffed with a good looking Opal Kadet.

Take that Apple !!!! j/k.

I really think apple should do a full retail release of it's software and get away from the nazi like EULA that stipulates that you have to buy their computer hardware in order to run their software.... even if their hardware is marked up 300%-500%.

One has to ask how are they tracking this info and how accurate it is. Then one has to ask, what specific info are they collecting and what are they doing with it. Then one has to ask, how can this tracking be blocked.

If they can figure out what OS you're using, they can then tie it to your IP address and all sort of other info.

Paranoid. Why dont you offline and leave the PC stuff to the grown ups.

[citation][nom]tpi2007[/nom]Christmas is coming... within a month OS X will be far behind.[/citation]

True enough, I am giving it as a gift to 14 people I know. Not to mention the 3 copies I purchased for myself :)

In the world of software expecting it to just work is being naive and for the most part wrong.

As for win 7 being a service pack .... well that's just wrong really. It does have the same base, but it's so much more than just a service pack.

Not suprised I have installed Windows 7 on nine different computers and they have all just worked. I am not talking installed the OS then drivers, I mean just the OS. On all 4 portables, A Dell Vostro A90, HP Mini 110, Latitued D620c and D830c, as well as several custom built systems. Wireless, audio, video, networking all worked. Of course I installed the proper drivers later but I was amazed to see how well it worked out of the box.

I have to say that I am almost stopped using my hackintosh completely because I can do soo much more with Windows 7.

I got Windows 7 for free on my Dell Studio XPS 13, and my cousin has his 13" Macbook Pro. He was actually really impressed with 7 once he tried using it. I told him he should install it. Not sure if he will, but it'd be pretty impressive if he did!

"Hi, I'm a Mac!" would like a word with you.
