The biggest problem with my Microsoft Tech support and why I think they are all idiots is first, they never admit faults or bugs in the operating system. Instead they are as good as the help client that comes with windows. Microsoft has the worst technical support in the world.
There are holes and security vulnerabilities in Windows. They admit that when they release the KB updates.
But the majority of issues with hardware is normally due to the hardware itself or the driver. The majority of BSoD are caused by a bad driver or badly coded software. Very few are because of the OS itself. In fact the BSoD was created to help diag what caused Windows to crash.
There are a few rare instances where a change in the OS can affect older hardware but again it is up to the hardware vendor to write drivers that properly support the new OS.
