I think one has to identify what OS is?
If OS is foundation, then we have to separate it, the rest should be add-ins & add-ons. because the way i see it they want to integrate alot of things... can we identify it as a stand alone soft?

Are they bored or something ?
I hated going to Windows 7 from my beloved flawless XP64... Why Windows 8 so soon...

They are risking making another Windows Milenium and boy was that horrible.

Yeah, a company making a product... How f***d up is that ?

Green must have gotten the ire of a lot of folks at MS so he left abruptly (involuntarily?) a month after posting the lifecycle plan in his blog.
Would i upgrade to 8 from 7 after 2 years? No. Frankly i doubt the plan.

I guess they will cut in half the price for people looking to upgrade from 7 to 8. It will be a matter of how good Windows 8 actually is.

I'm willing to pay $60 for games I play for 20hours. I'm fine paying $100 on an OS I always use. But they better do something really good otherwise I'd save myself from the hassle of installing a new OS.

this is ridiculous, I blame myself for jumping from vista to windows 7 (because honestly I don't see much improvements to justify the cost). and now just when I spent big bucks on 7 another one is already announced? I'm made up my mind that I'll use an OS for at least 4 years before even considering upgrading. If microsoft releases an OS with another DirectX restricted to that OS. It would be a huge dick move on their part

With product cycles getting as short as this (less than two years if this schedule works out) we probably will have to start getting used to the idea of a subscription model rather than buying a new OS every few years...

At least that's what I think they're aiming for if this turns out to be true...

I wish microsoft would start more product lines like the XBOX and not be so reliant on constantly shipping new OSs and Office packages to bring in so much money. I mean seriously, who wouldn't be happy if XP was their last OS and they just made small updates to it overtime?

[citation][nom]captaincharisma[/nom]so Microsoft should wait for another 10 years like they did with vista to come out with a new OS so they can have another flop FAIL[/citation]

Vista wasn't out very long...

Cutting Win7 short would be a huge mistake. Most successful versions of windows have AT LEAST lived past two service packs. XP, likely their most successful ever, lasted to SP3.

I'm not against new technology, but additions could easily be made without forcing customers to shell out hundreds of dollars more. Most smart people won't jump for Win8 if it's too soon.

Hmmm... it may be possible that big companies moves to win7 (last 32 bit) and leave win8 to normal customers, and may their next upgrade when win9 is ready.

Vista was major update, Win7 minor
Win8 will be major update, win9 minor (their version of tictoc...)

So win9 will be the polished version of their next new core, so it will be safer bet to big companies, but those who are really eager for leap, will test their new ideas in win8 a couple of years earlier than win9 will be available.

[citation][nom]Upendra09[/nom]hopefully win8 will be strictly x64[/citation]
I read some post that windows 8 will move to 128bit, guess thats if we see 128bit cpu's by that time.

ithink this is a fake. the guy who posted the pics was a microsoft designer. it is the same layout, aero scheme, everything as windows 7. i can even change th color of the title bar to orange. th einstallation is the same, everything is the same. i have the color as orange right now th e graphics in those picutures are clearly lower than the ones of windows 7. its a fake. what kind of data could microsoft have collected on windows 7 to have enough data to make windows 8? cheap photoshop job thats all

The road map is so up to date that apparently office 2010 is already RTM.. February 12, 2009. Are you kidding me? This is news?
Don't ever write another garbage article please.

Yeah, because Steve Jobs coming out with a new iPhone every year would be considered genius to you?

[citation][nom]Upendra09[/nom]hopefully win8 will be strictly x64[/citation]

So you hope that people who can't run a 64bit os due to cpu limitation won't be able to upgrade windows any more. wow, that is smart... i mean, just expecting that everyone forks out more money for a new computer whenever a new o/s arrives is brilliant isn't it. I'm still running one old pentium 4 and it works fine with win7 32bit.
