Vista: Major driver issues, unstable out of the gate for a year or more, significantly slower than xp.
8: Few driver issues (I've encountered 0), Very stable, More efficient than 7.

Do you guys even remember Vista? The ui changes were probably the only good part of the whole shitstain. 8 is like the antivista, the ui changes are the only thing anyone has an issue with. And they aren't even that bad. If you were using the start menu properly, ie using the search function heavily, it's functionally the same. And those large tiles are great from a speed perspective. I can bounce my mouse to the bottom left without looking and then know exactly where the tile I want is. Large, predictable buttons facilitate muscle memory. So, the start screen is, for those willing to give it a chance, potentially much faster than the menu.

The complaints about the new ui's learning curve are total bollocks. Easy to learn != efficient to use. Think manual vs automatic transmission. And it's always the "power users" complaining about it too. 😛 Go get a mac.

Perhaps a miss wording in the headline, for many its more of a "Windows 8 Downgrades Will Get More Expensive in February"...

MS even went through the trouble to disable the boot to desktop UI registry hack that was available in the beta because many of their customers think the metro UI don't belong in a desktop environment. Why disable something many users have requested? Is that the MS way of saying - We know better! (Proof of how much "better"? Every time MS "knew" better than listen to its customers its been a disaster sales wise... vista... win8)

Is that work with the customers or against them?

Its more about giving a choice where to boot, many still like the desktop you know... why not let them choose what they like, not everyone like a strawberry shake... some like vanilla better! Bollocks as you say is removing that choice - A choice that was available in the beta!

If you don't like the concept of choice its your choice, don't complain when others want to choose differently - Its a rather narrow minded thing to do!

They could tell me the price is going up to 2 million dollars and I still wouldn't care. I'm not planning on upgrading to windows 8, ever. I'll wait and see what they bring to the table with windows 9.

I tried several shell apps to bring back the Win 7 look and feel, and the one I finally settled on is Classic Shell. It does the same thing as Start8 and it's *free*. Couple of minor quirks to get used to, but I like it the best.

$39.99 is too much. If it were at most $17.99 I would consider buying it. I think I'll 'acquire' it without spending an exorbitant sum. Or I'll stick with XP until the next iteration, be it called Windows Blue or Windows 9.

Microsoft already lost a sale because it's too expensive, now they're planning on raising the price further? Dumbest marketing move ever.

I'll say that once you get use to win 8, its not that bad BUT I think win 7 is a much better OS for computers as a desktop/laptop function. I know you can just pay for the start menu option, but I don't think I should have too. Win8 is a good tablet OS and it would do well if they split the mobile (meaning phones and tablets and maybe convertables) and desktop with the tried and true setup. If it was that easy to get desktop and tablets using the same OS I think apple or google or even Ubuntu would have done it. Problem lies in we are in a transition period where different techs are coming together. It will take time and balance to achieve the 1 OS setup and it may never happen either, we don't know yet. But for a person who loves the newest things, I have to say while I bought win8 I couldn't put it on the computers @ work. The down time with people trying to figure things out is not worth it when win7 was an amazing product. Even vista wasn't as bad because the fundamentals where the same. I don't get why windows can have a split OS but have an apple approach as to harmony (like iCloud, iTunes) type setup. That's my 2 cents, feel free to through it back lol.

Bad move Microsoft! Upgrade should stay at $40 indefinitely until win9 comes out. I've installed win8 pro upgrade to many people along with Classic Shell, and they loved it. Nobody will ever consider spending more than that.

[citation][nom]fuzzion[/nom]Windows 7 is like the diesel truck that just wouldnt die.[/citation]

Actually, Windows xp takes that title. It's still a very popular OS in businesses or governments "because upgrading is too expensive".

Also, many managers have the mentality of "Why fix it when it still works?"

I was "forced" to install Windows 8 on my 2 new PC's.(The price, W8 vs W7)
From the start I do not like the Metro interface and still does not like it.
I dash for the desktop interface as soon as Windows 8 started.
In my opinion the Metro interface is the most ugliest desktop by far.
It so flat and mono like...if you understand what I mean.

Overall in the desktop mode it preform very well.....almost like Windows 7 with a few changes here and there.
The absence of the Start button does not bother me a lot, although there is some times I needed it.
But MS seriously must consider getting rid of the Metro.
Windows 8 will perform well on a tablet...but with a desktop touchscreen monitor it does not make sense.
I personally do not like to stretch out my arm(s) and touch a screen, smearing it with my bodily oily fluid.
It is to tiring-some......
1: My arms do not like it....
2: Frequently cleaning of the screen panel....

MS is being arrogant and lame. $199 for pile of crap which is not usable on most devices, doesn't come with dvd not to mention blu ray support and overall looks like some kid designed it in a pre school.

What a joke!

[citation][nom]afrobacon[/nom]After having used it since Consumer Preview; I have to say I'm starting to prefer the UI over W7.[/citation]
You are the only one. I have used windows 8 a fair bit, even used it with a touch screen. It is absolutely shite in every way. I would have been much happier to keep win 7 ui and just have it optimised to run smoother under the hood.

I honestly wouldn't use W8 even if it were free. I'm sticking to W7 until Valve officially releases Steam for Linux and pushes the gaming industry towards it.

[citation][nom]mollywilkso00[/nom]What do you guys think about one of these before price goes up?[/citation]
I am guessing that this is some sort of new scheme by spammers/phishers. Don't click on the link!

Yeah, there are a few quirks here and there, but when I'm forced to go back to Win 7, I always find some little things missing, and it is annoying as heck.

Well. Is this when I have to post these unsatisfying statistics?
http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey (Check the OS line.)
Win8 is gaining on Win 7. Amongst Steam users.
With that being said, I don't think Win8 is too bad if you only have one monitor. If you have more...You're going to have a bad time.

I have already upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and it's amazing. I quickly adapted to the non-existence of the Start button and I really like the look and feel of the system overall.
