Windows explorer takes too long to recognize c drive. Torch icon waves about for

Windows explorer takes too long to recognize C drive. The little torch icon waves around for about 3 minutes and then decides to list the drive. Very frustrating.
It happenes if the pc is loaded up with processing or doing nothing.
Any answers please.

Use task manager and see what resource is using high cpu cycles.

Run chkdsk /r on drive - probably hd errors.
