I went to move files from the computer to write them on a cd and after i
clicked on "write these files to cd" it "wrote" them the cd popped out and
then i put it back in to make sure that everything had worked out. when i
clicked on the folder i moved, only one thing out of the 183 things i tried
to move, had moved. the rest off it had disappeard. wwhat do i do?

Look in c:\documents and settings\username\cd burning..That is were they
should go before they get copied to the cdrw drive.

What kind of cd were you using?

But the XP burning application doesn't actually MOVE the files to that
folder, does it, it just puts a shortcut there, surely?

Actully it makes a temp copy - I've just tried it.

What exactly are you saying: Are the files not in their original folders or
are the files just not on the CD? BTW, you can't "move" files to a CDR using
the inbuilt XP burning application, you can only copy them AFAIK. To move
files you need to have a CDRW formatted for packet writing which XP doesn't
do.
