Hey everyone! This one is a bit strange but seems like a really easy fix for some reason. Quick summary

Just changed my old AsusZ270-P with an i7 7700kand put in a new Asrock B650m pro4 with an i510600k.

First boot went good , but afterwards every time I boot it takes a little longer than normal to login (not terrible only a couple extra seconds), and when it does login my background display and my taskbar are unresponsive 9/10 times.

Sometimes it works for a few mins before eventually doing the same thing. My task manager works just fine and Hard Disk Sentinel is reading all of my drives and good and healthy including the boot drive. I tinkered with BIOS but I was on a time crunch for work so I haven’t been able to do much troubleshooting. Anyone have any ideas ? Any questions I can answer as well!

FULL NEW SPECS
32GB Corsair RAM
2HDD (1TB, 4TB) 1SSD (Boot drive 540 GB)
RTX 3080ti FE
i5 10600k
AsRock b650m pro4
Corsair TX850M gold cert PSU

You didn't reinstall Windows did you?

you know something sir I did not and I just checked another forum mentioning that and realizing that I am a moron. I originally thought I just had to get another windows key since it’s was significant change. So I need to wipe and reformat all 3 drives or just the boot SSD

Do you have an Ms account sign in? If your key was from personal system builder oem (not from Dell Hp etc) or retail, then all you need to do is deactivate your old computer then you can activate your new system.

Disconnect other drives and reinstall Windows on the drive you want. Reconnect them later. This prevents Windows meddling with other drives as it likes to do and put boot loader info on them. You want that stuff on your os drive so if you remove or replace one of them that Windows will still boot.

Any program installed to secondary drives will need to be installed again. Anything that installs to the registry. Steam games is fine, just redirect Steam once you get to that point.

Okay! Thanks for the help . Greatly appreciated. I do have a MS sign in so I’ll try to use that but otherwise we will see

oh ok, might still be able to get around it. Type account in task bar search and head over to manage your account, click on manage my ms account then sign in. Under devices will show activated systems. If both are there then youll need to deactivate the old one. Type about in tb search to see your current device name because that's the only info you go by.

Okay! I’m not at my pc right now currently on the overnight shift but I will try that when I get home. Would this require me to reinstall the previous MOBO for this because as of right now I can’t use the task bar . Unless you’re talking about after I wipe the drive

It generally helps to do this before swapping parts - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...e-change-2c0e962a-f04c-145b-6ead-fb3fc72b6665

though if your user account was linked to an email, you might be lucky and it happened automatically
Thanks ! As far as I know I actually did that before but if not truthfully I don’t really care for a paid full windows copy as I don’t need any of it’s main features, I’ve used a batch file before to get rid of the notice until It finally activates.. my account isn’t a big deal lol
