When I plug in my second monitor my pc crashes instantly. I get a black screen and moments later my pc turns off.

I tested different cables, refresh rates and resolutions. But nothing seems to work. I even tried different monitors but I cant get more then one to work.

Both monitors work fine seperetly.

Pc specs:
Motherboard: MSI B350M GAMING PRO B350
PSU: Corsair VS550 (2018) 550W ATX23
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2 x 8 GB 3200 MHz
GPU: Gigabyte RX580 8gb
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Case: Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L

If you have any idea why this isnt working, feel free to replie.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Solution
It is the GPU's required wattage that matters - not the number of monitors.

The error was a result of the crash. Much as if someone unplugged the computer.

Will set aside the PSU for the time being....

Anyway, if the RX580 crashes your computer and the Quadro p400 does not - then the RX580 is suspect.

Are you able to install the RX580 in another computer to determine if the problem follows the RX580?

My thought is an electrical short.

Which actual plug or connection causes the crash? I.e., video, AC power, speaker?

Update your post to include more information:

1) make and model monitors,

2) video cables and video ports being used.

How are the monitors powered? Are you using any power strips? AC Grounding problem perhaps.

Inspect all cables, ports, and plugs for bare wire showing or some metal to metal contact between wire or plug to the case/outlets.

Also take a look at Reliability History. It may be capturing some error codes or warnings that correspond with the PC crashes.

The crash occurs when I plug my second Display port cable in. (On either one of the monitors, in whatever order, or HDMI cable, nothing works)

I'm using two MSI Optix MAG241C.

I have tried different power strips. But it still didn't work.

I did put a different GPU in the same pc then it worked.

I think it's a problem with the drivers or something. I tried installing older drivers but that doesn't seem to fix the problem.

What was that second GPU (make and model) that did work?

Does the following link match your GPU:

https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-RX580D5-8GD/sp#sp

One HDMI port, three DP ports - correct?

Noted that the specifications recommend a 500 Watt PSU.

The current Cosair 550 Watt PSU may not be up to handling the Gigabyte GPU with two monitors and all other system components.

Yet if the other GPU worked then the Gigabyte GPU may be faulty.

Did you find any errors in Reliability History?

The other GPU I tested was a Nvidia Quadro p400 (stolen from my dad's PC)

Yes that's the GPU, 1 HDMI 3 DP ports.

I don't think the problem lies with the PSU. While hooking two monitors up worked in the past.

The only error was "Windows was not properly shut down"

Yes tomorrow I'm going to a friend to test my GPU in his PC. If it crashes in his pc the GPU probably is the suspect.
