I have a BenQ FP71G+ monitor and windows update gives me a new driver for a
FP705. I contacted BenQ about this and they told me NOT to use the driver
posted on the windows update website. They told me that my monitor would not
function properly or not at all, as the FP705 and FP71G+ have only being LCD
Monitors in common. So my question is why does window update post an
incorrect driver? When it could potentially cause a malfunction in your
hardware or even damage it.

So that smart people like you can catch the mistake:)
there have been numerous posts declaring to NOT download hardware drivers
from that website.
Go to the maufacturer of the hardware website and download from there.
