windows XP home "double booting"

hello all,

I am having a problem with Windows XP home edition in that whenever I
reboot and it gets passed the bios and is booting Windows it does
every screen twice. It has done this every sense I did a Windows
repair.

Has or is anyone else experienced this. I have a Dell laptop that
reboots in less than half the time as my PC (ASUS motherboard). Like
I said it started doing this after I did a repair.

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not work for you, then:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then read similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

When I tried your first suggestion I was told something like
"everything checks out okay".

On your second suggestion my settings were:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

and I changed it to your suggestion.

Unfortunately it did not correct the problem but I thank you anyway.
