Hi all,
I use a Maxtor 6E040L0 (40GB) drive as my d:\ with Data. Win XPsp1 is
installed on the c:\. It worked fine for last five months and suddenly D:\
disappeared from the Windows explorer. It even doesn't show up on Disk
Management screen.
However, the drive is recognized at the boot up and also shows up in the
Device Manager as Maxtor drive. The drive was formatted in NTFS. In the
device manager it says, "this device is working properly" under the general
tab but there is no information under Volumes tab.
So far I have removed it from the Device Manager and re added, remove and re
plug the cables, rebooted several times but nothing has brought the drive
back within the explorer. Maxtor doesn't have any updated drivers either.
Any thoughts on what I can do to get the drive back or the information back?
Thanks in advance.

Gumi

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen, click
on Disk Management. Does it show up on the right hand side? If so, what does
it tell you about the drive?

If the hard drive is hosed (which I am sure it is) why does it recognized in
bios and shows up in device manager as "device is working properly"?
