hi, I was wondering why winxp transfer file the same speed no mater how the HD's are fast.
I bench mark my HD it gives me 140mb/s on raid 0. When I move a file from partition C to D within same raid stripe why would it be so slow in copying & pasting!!. I measure time it only transfer on 11mb/s!!!!

how can I get my sata raid drives to operate at max with moving files?!

SATA can function, only if a] the motherboard supports devices with SATA and b] only if you have SATA disk drives.

Now the data transfer from 'disk to disk' is actually by way of disk to memory to disk, thus the real limitation is on the IDE data BUS, not the maximum transfer speed of the HDD.

Check your motherboard specifications for the limitations.

well, I got 2 Sata WD75GB raptors 10000rpm on an on chip via controler that has the bus speed as its limited bandwidth, my mobo is an ABIT KV8-MAX3.

when I tranfer lets say a 500MB file from on folder to another or partition to another It tranfer it in 3 seconds, but when I tranfer 1gb or more the tranfer become rediculous like it takes 5 min!!!

Is this an OS issue? or is it just the hardware? if its harware why would it move 500 mb in 3 second but wont move 1GB in 6 sec?

thank you

How much RAM and virtual memory do you have?
