Hi There

Lacking a suitable phone line, I connect to the internet, from a friends Wi-Fi, 30 metres away, into my desk top PC, via an external arial.

I have been trying, unsuccessfuly so far, to connect my main desk top PC, using a PheeNet WAP-654G High Power Wireless AP/Bridge unit to our laptop, so we can use a wireless local area network in the house.

How do I do this, can I do this, am I using the right equipment?

The LAN is fine on a cable linking the Ethernet ports but a wireless network would be so much more convenient.

WAP isn't a wireless adapter -- get one of those for less than $30 -- PCI card usually better than USB, by the way.

Hi There

Can I use a wireless adapter to link my PC to my laptop? I am using a Ralink Wireless LAN card in my desktop, with an outside arial to pick up my Wi-Fi from down the street. I tried putting a Linksys Wireless G PCI Adapter in my PC but that stopped my Ralink from picking up my incoming Wi-Fi signal.

You can link computers directly wirelessly using ad-hoc setting in wireless adapters -- without going via router.

But I have never felt the need to do it so look out for advice (starting with wireless adapter manual)

I think both computers have to be in the same workgroup or have the same SSID.
