I have an old P1-200Mhz with 128MB EDO RAM (yuck) It only has a 2GB hard drive and a cable modem connecction.

Think it's possible to run an 8 person CS server? Or is it just wishfull thinking?

If you think I can, should I go Linux (which version, ie Mandrake 9.1, etc.) or Win98SE?

Ouch... hmmm I think it might barrely handle 8ppl... it will chug on map changes and whatnot. If you know linux, then go with it, it will handle slightly better than win98se.

The flavor of linux doesn't really matter (mainly because you shouldn't/won't need to run a gui), just pick a popular one.

Yeah, win 200 has too much overhead for a P200 really, especially if you are going to be serving. I think the main bottleneck for a CS server would be the HDD. Do you have any ATA100 Controller cards, cause if so you could set up a small ATA100 HDD to replace the PIO controller that is most likely to be on that board. Also, I think as long as you run a console install of Linux, the reduced overhead should mean that 128MB and a p200 would be alright. Afterall, Your net connection is most important, and you do have cable.
