i went to open my SAT prep thing and it uses a .pdf... for some reason my version of xp isnt a legal copy (although it is) and adobe gives me an error and closes it. is there any other program that i can use to open a .pdf, i really need to use this...

Foxit software offer a small, free reader that looks much the same as acrobat...

You can download it here.

This is only a reader, and allows you to open and print PDFs
