[citation][nom]halcyon[/nom]I'm not familiar enough with the history to know whether or not "Woz" would agree with your perspective. I simply enjoy Apple's products. I don't pay much attention to all these lawsuit shenanigans because I haven't seen it affect me in any important way. Apple sues Samsung...Samsung suess Apple. Apple sues Google...the US sues Apple. on and on...on an on.I have a Mac Pro, a Macbook Pro, 3 iPads (in our home), 2 iPhones (in our home) and a couple iPods. ...I also have a reasonable Wintel gaming machine. Now if these lawsuits impact my ability to purchase the tech I like then I'll feel differently, but so far that's hasn't happened and I'm kinda hoping it doesn't....back to "Woz" and what's relevant to this article... My comment was made because in the few times I'd heard what he has to say about Apple and their products he's glowingly positive...based on that I'd expect him to say "Apple" is the good guy. I simply don't quite believe that. You didn't ask but....[/citation]
I should say that I'm not really surprised, but Woz has every reason to not like Apple.

And Steve Jobs has effected a lot of people getting Samsung phones in different parts of the world. Jobs had a personal vendetta against Google, because he felt no one else should be allowed to make a touchscreen smartphone but Apple. The new CEO of Apple is much more level minded.

I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this.
Yeah, definitely the good guys.

Just because Apple innovates doesn't mean they're the "good guys" automatically. Apple is every bit as guilty as using patents as a weapon to prevent competition, and is really one of the worst offenders in this regard.

I didn't like nor dislike Steve Jobs. He impacted the creation of some technology I truly enjoy. ...nothing more. He also did some things I don't agree with. He's gone. ...and in my mind, very much so. ...and he's not missed...at all by me. I'd like to see Apple continue to create the kind of products they have with the product priorities they seem to choose.

I think with Mr. Jobs gone there will be a lot more level-minded-ness and I hope Apple can still do well and create the product I enjoy with that. I know many prefer Android (or anything non-Apple). I've tried all that and found that I prefer Apple's products a lot (not all the time, but a lot). Product quality is of the utmost importance to me...even taking a slight lead over functionality/custom-ability. ...and I know and respect that that is an unpopular viewpoint in this circle.

...again, when I've read what "Woz" has to say he's always been pro-Apple. I don't think Apple quite deserves that, based on what I've read but hey.

The idea that only Apple should create a touch-screen phone is just really off to me...really. ..but I guess that's what S.J. thought. Having had several "good" Android phones and tablets it just made me appreciate iOS devices all the more. There's plenty enough market to go around...no reason to squabble over it, IMO.

The problem is when Apple tries to prevent the same of a device based on a shape of one of their products, even when there is ample prior-art prior to the sale of said apple device. Tablet computers predate the iPad, but that doesn't stop them from thinking they invented that form factor as well, and solely posess the rights to make devices in the shape of a rectangle.

That's not being "the good guy", that's being an ass.

Yeahp....and it seems totally unnecessary to me. Not to sound like a fan-person but I think Apple's products would do just as well if Apple didn't interfere with the competition. Really. Again, having used the competition I don't really see why Apple would be so so worried. ...based on my experiences alone, I prefer iOS devices...and its taken quite a bit of $$ to finally come to that realization.

...but I like having the chance to discover that on my own and certainly don't want Apple products to be the only ones of their kind on the block. Again, with Steve Jobs gone Apple may take the opportunity to change how they do business. ...even if they've found success by being the bully in the past.

For someone to say they're the "good guys" just seems a bit weird given all that we've seen.

[citation][nom]halcyon[/nom]...and how is it, precisely, that my comment would suggest to you that I'm "uneducated". Please be specific. I don't have a Phd but I do have a Master's. ...I'm just not sure what bearing my comments have on the perception of this.[/citation]

yea, someone could be a world renound doctor and tell you exactly how the human body works, but still know nothing about a computer... not saying thats you, but you can still call that person uneducated on that subject.

for you, i believe he had the right choice of words, because you apparently though he was a complete "apple can do no wrong and how dare you call that "feature" a flaw" kind of person, or at least came off that way.

on a side note, he probably dealt with patent trolls far worse than apple apeares to be.

LOL! Inventing and creating so much my A**!!! all Apple does is take everybody elses stuff, slap their logo on it and either mark it up in price or dumb down the hardware....

I worship Woz, but I also feel really sorry for him. Apple is not what it once was, it's not the jeans and T-shirt - rainbow colored apple logo company it use to be. It's just another big patent hording company like the rest of them these days. I understand him speaking up for Apple, like it was his own child or something. No matter what Apple does, Woz will always be like the mom that says: "My child? My child would never do that!" Poor Woz :-(

You're still my Hero Woz!

I'm not quite sure what I said to make anyone think that. I certainly don't feel that way. I don't love Apple...I just don't automatically hate all their products because they're made by Apple. ...and I think if I went around saying, "you're uneducated" the targets of those comments would probably not take it as an objectively stated compliment (no matter the circumstances), hence my response.

I'm not an Apple fan, I just don't hate them either...they're just another tech company as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly, how can anyone justify Apple getting the patents for "slide to unlock" (which has been in use for centuries, long before computers) and the form factor for hte iPad (which was in concept form in Star Trek back in the early 90's, and many earlier scifi stories, shows, and movies)? Those are the most obvious, but there are many, many more that have been in development by humanity as a whole for decades before Apple "patented" them.

Apple is EVIL, in the form of a company. This is totally ridiculous. They shouldn't be allowed to own such concepts and ban others from using them.

Apple asked for (applied for) the patent. The patent office could have (perhaps should have) rejected it. ...but so what. Slide-to-unlock is not the only option to intuitively unlock a phone. To me, some variation of triple-tap (or something close) could work equally well (perhaps not, I don't purport to design interfaces).

Woz seems like a nice guy, I have watched most of his interviews, but Apple is one of the worst enemies you can have in the ongoing patent war.

[citation][nom]dcrussian[/nom]How can "entrepreneurs [...] be encouraged to innovate" when there's a constant sort of "fear" that you'll be breaking a patent when you make something. Seems like people have to reinvent the wheel just to avoid lawsuits these days; that or pay royalties on patents.[/citation]

Actually, the wheel was already patented in Australia.

Come on Woz, saying that Apple is "the good guy" when they're repeatedly suing a competitor (Samsung) over patents in order to shut them out...well....

We now know who inherited the famous Jobs Reality Distortion Field....

LOL! All the Apple hate makes me laugh. Get over it, there are differing products that cater to different crowds. If you don't like it then don't buy it. I love my mac book. I also love my gaming PC and my free HP with Debian installed on it. They all have their perks. Oh and of course the Woz is going to back Apple, he helped start the company.

doesnt matter, iCrapple is for Isheeps, if they cant see they are overpaying for inferior hardware just for the look, well, every single iphone looks the same. Android phones are for people who want to stand out of the crowd, with all the case mods and phone covers for android you can make your own personal statement and not be a sheep.

I haven't seemed to miss out on anything be using iOS devices.

Lets see, ignorance is BLISS.... Who was it that said that? How could a moron who can't access 30 % of the websites in the internet due to lack of flash and java support (thanks to Apple policies) speak about not having missed anything? Welcome to the age of stupidity and hubris!!!!
