with my budget of £200 and after a lot of reading I've narrowed it down to these two cards. Both same price; 7900 is out of stock right now though.

From what I gather, they are both great cards and both good performers so I'm tempted to just buy the 256Mb 1800xt now rather than waiting for the 7900gt to arrive. (which was initially my 1st choice).

any ideas?

BTW £200 is the cheapest for either of these cards I could find, which is probably why the 7900 is sold out and likely backordered. It is available elsewhere but much more expensive.

just curious, has the prices for the x1800xt dropped yet? I just checked newegg, and it's still at 499. it's a moot point for me tho, cuz i already got my 7900 (and loving it)...

well i think prices have dropped in the uk for the x1800 and x1900 cards since the release of the new nvidia cards. like i said this card "Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out Dual DVI PCI-E' can be had for £198 or about $350

appreciate the feedback.

BTW the 'best gaming cards for the money' thread above: I've found it to be one of the single most useful bits of information for me after many hours spent reading up reviews on different sites.

must take a lot of work to keep it up to date and objective. Thanks

Looking at benchmarks the X1800XT seems slightly better in DX9 and the 7900GT is a bit better in OpenGL. So if you plan to play Doom and Quake all day, go with 7900, otherwise as more games use DX9 I would go with the X1800XT, but it is very close and both these cards are giving whopping power for the price and whichever you get will be a damn good buy. I was going for the 256 X1800XT myself until I saw a 512mb X1900XT for £280 and went for that instead.
