ok in canada a x1900 aiw is 495 cad while a the XT is 500.
is the higherclocked XT with 256mb more ram worth the tradeoff of the AIW features? btw wat is the clock of a AIW.. i cant find the specs anywhere

The clock on the AIW card is at 500 MHz and the ram is at 954 MHz, also the new interactive VGA charts on toms allows to do this really easily, but i looked and even the x1800XT beats out the AIW 1900 on everytest as far as the frame rate goes. And often times its by a fairly large margin.

Soup

The clock speeds of the AIW are quite a bit lower than the XT's... personally, I would go for the XT since for the price, it has much better performance, and I doubt many people would want to watch TV on their PC... but then again... that's my opinion...

from the vga charts the aiw only lags behind by aobut 10 fps on average so im assuming that 512mb isnt a factor and that the aiw features would be better for the money/future in the case i would like to make a media centre

Well do you need the AIW features?
Can you use the included copies of Premiere and Photoshop elements ($150-200CDN value [on sale at FutureShop this week for $150])?

If the answer to any of those is yes then get the AIW, otherwise get the XT for the gaming and get a seperate add-in card (even cheap one) for the VIVO/Tuner functions.

Crashman would be a great person to ask about this as he's had both the AIWX1800XL and AIWX1900.

PS, look at the performance in Oblivion at FiringSquad, for the most part X1800XT kills the AIWX1900, but when it comes to indoors the AIWX1900 suddenly jumps to the forefront (IMO it's likely due to parralax bump mapping and surface, and specular lighting, using the extra shader power);

But if it's X1900XT versus AIWX1900 then the XT will outperform in all gaming situations.

The main question is do you plan to watch TV on your PC and do you want to be able to do video capture ? If you answer no then you don't need to get the AIW if you answered yes then you should.

thx alot guys. 2 more questions,
1. is there a ati boardpartner that has a lifetime warantee? i think this is one of the major reasons y ppl get nvidia redardless of whos king in performance, evga, bfg, xfx all have nice warantees

2. how are your thoughts on the comparison between the Aiw and the x1900gt
? 36ps and 575 core and 1.2ghz memory

HIS has been giving long warranties recently for the high end X1K series, don't know if it's 3year or lifetime. Gigabyte and ASUS are 3 years, just like their nV cards. However non make AIW only ATI is AIW.

AIWX1900 > X1900GT IMO.

48p @ clock better than 36P @ clock, and the memory on the AIW can overclock well.

AIWX1900 > X1900GT IMO.
I'm not sure that the X1900GT exists. But I'd take the XT over the AIW; you'll probably never use the TV tuner. I used to have one, but I never used it. That might be because I my family doesn't have cable, dish, etc. but I'm not big on TV nonetheless. I'll occasionally watch a DVD on my PC, but that's the extent of it.
