Just wanted to tell everyone that i ran into the same problem with my x 1950 pro. It froze during games and 3dmark 05. It didn't get that hot according to the cards' sensor. Couldn't understand wtf was going on.
It turned out that the problem was simply an accumulation of dust in the cooling system. A blow through of the system solved my issues. Was able to run 3dmark 05 afterwards.
Worth a try if you ask me.
