The play and charge cable only charges the battery, it does not transfer any data. It does not make your wireless controller wired.
You still need a "Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows" which should work with every version of windows from XP SP2-Windows 7 RC. hope this clears up any confusion for those who are not able to get their wireless controller to work with only the play and charge cable connecting to your PC.

I dunno, there's another one I just came across, titled Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Driver v1.0 driver for Windows 7 32-bit:

Does this still require a receiver? (I don't have Windows 7 yet)

Hi everyone!

I'm having problems with my controller too!
I'm on XP SP2, the weird thing is... it's recognised as a device (i installed the driver), i can test/calibrate it in the control panel (and it comes us as the Xbox 360 Controller)... BUT... when i play Prince of Persia 2008... that's where the problems come in... bizarrely i can scroll through the menu etc but as soon as i get into the game, my controller doesn't let me move... if i go back to the menu, it's fine...

Does anyone have a clue what's going on here?

I'm having different issues. Everything works smoothly except the triggers and the right joy 'z axis' are not being recognized. Might be the game (GTA SanAndreas), but still a ball-bust nonetheless and the last crap-ass controller didn't have these issues. It just wore out.

Aaaaaa..... Wrong....... It does too.

Assign the correct values to your controller in the options menu of your game. It is under the control options. You MUST do this with almost every game. This will fix most of these questions here and the driver from microsoft cures the others except some because of manufacture dates of pre PC integrated XBOX controllers. If you have the original controller it probably wont work.

It works, but its a PAIN. Same thing happend to me when I went and purchased a PS3 controller for my PC in order to play NFSU..Every time I connected the controller via USB to my pc I would have to mess with the settings to get it to work. Its not like a normal PS3 or X-box 360 where you never have to worry about this issue, if you are patient and have time to mess with the settings EVERYTIME you decide to play the game then you should be fine, if not just get the "PC" version of the controller and all headaches will dissapear.

Im just reinstalling OSes running benchs in newly OCed gear working on a coulpe stickies for randomizer and uhhhhhh making brackets for my super desk......

Nice 8)... Im at work, slackin and waiting till it 5 pm to get home and play some games...Just ordered some parts and they arrived today, so im kinda anxious to get home and take my case apart...

Yes it is just a piece of functional art I guess. It is supposed to be all exposed so you can see it all. Also it really cuts down on thermals. Another reason was because I didnt want eight to nine cases under my desk.

I works great if your processor is flat enough. My PII 940 - 955 are not.m My 7750+ is and it gets great thermals.

PII needs to be lapped everyone I have seen have had ahump in the middle.

i got the same sort of problem but i can download the software for the controller... i just go to www.microsoft.com for the software but then when i install it it doesn't work! so no i still don't know what to do...

To actually make it work you have to buy the controller with the usb end on it then connect it to your pc and there will be a disc with the purchase of the controller which you need to install.

I ended up buying the Wireless controller for Windows. Amazon had it on sale a week ago for $39.99 with free shipping, so I bought it.

i was bored one day and my bff left his xbox controller (wired) at my house so i pluged it in and played halo (pc) =D it works with wired but i have a wireless and a wireless PS3 controller, but they dont work =[ the computer reconises it though. just go to controll panel > game controllers. there you can test and calibrate them. i have vista (XP is way better) but i am sure it works on XP coz i had halo on XP before i had it on vista, which made it hard to install and play on ¬.¬ although i have no idea how to get wireless to work. lolol

Dark4Stars XxX

i hada make an account just 2 post o.0 wtf!

If you want it to work for games you need to download a program called switchblade
