To make it clear, I've already followed the instructions posted all over the internet involving process of installing the drivers from the Microsoft website. However, when I encountered a problem with the installed drivers (code 10), I uninstalled the drivers - hoping to reinstall them at startup. This is where the real dilemma begins. When I plug the device into my computer, it's no longer recognized whatsoever. No "plug in" sound and no "installing drivers" icon in the taskbar. My computer cannot recognize my wireless receiver at all. It doesn't even show up as "unknown device" (it's supposed to) in the device manager, which it did before I uninstalled the driver. I've tried numerous working USB ports which didn't work.

The light is on when I plug it in my computer, so it's not broken. I've also tested it on two computers and both of them recognized it as a device.

Other plug and play devices work such as my joystick, mouse and keyboard.

This is the wireless receiver.

I've tried looking for the drivers in Driver Sweeper but no luck.

To avoid more headaches, I ended up just buying a wired controller from Best Buy that works flawlessly.

My issue no longer needs to be resolved. Thanks for the response.

I tried to get a wireless xbox controlelr to work on my PC and ended up frying a USB port. I'm not sure if you have one that is specifically designed for PC, but if you don't I'd recommend getting the wired USB one, that is compatible.

I got one and it is a cinch to set up and literally works perfectly for all modern games. Even the button mappings are automatically handled when you enable the controller and it works flawlessly. I switch my monitor to my HDTV and it is the exact same as console except I'm playing at 1080p with AA and all the eye candy! I really recommend it.
