Hi,
I recently stopped pc gaming, because my gpu stopped working. I'm not planning to pick up pc building for a long time, and I'll probably get a nintendo switch first. For now, it's some casual Minecraft and RollerCoasterTycoon 3 on my laptop.

I recently found out about the expansion-slot-style NUC (Intel BKNUC9VXQNB), combined with the Coolermaster NC100. The NUC is fitted with a Xeon E-2286M and needs some manual RAM and M.2 SSD installing. There are these things with an i5, i7 and i9 equipped, but they aren't available for me. If I do pick up pc gaming again, would an Intel Xeon E-2286M NUC with 16GB SODIMM DDR4 2666MHz and a GTX 1080 do the job for casual 60FPS 2560x1080 gaming?

I did some research, and found out that it'll probably will:

just double-checking here if it happens to be not such a good idea.

Honestly didn't know about this and digged into it, a nice small system if you are willing to spend the money on it, but with very modest expandability like gpu and ram, some storage.

A review with gaming benchmarks,

seeing that the xeon you want to use has the same stock and turbo speeds as the i9 mobile cpu used in here do i expect the same results.

You learn from hanging around on the internet, even if people say you do not 😂.

Idrc if expandability is limited. Heck, I’ve been running a 1060 3GB until lately, and it probs died from old age. If I ever feel like my games are getting choppy and run bad, I’ll resort to a second-hand 2080 if necessary, and the thing supports up to 64 gigs of RAM, so I think it’ll be fine. The most important thing is that when I’m going to live on my own, the thing shouldn’t use that much space on my desk.

Looked at it and find it interesting, but there are other mini itx options as well. Those might well give better performance for the same price. It's not an all in one so you need to add ram/storage and for gaming a gpu.

It's up to you, enough reviews that talk about the shortcomings, but if you like it and want to go for it sure why not. Can even show it of here when you are done with it.
