I just exchanged my 660 ti with 50 dollar for a xfx 7950 hoping to get a little better performance in gaming. This decision is based on the advice of the sales guy and the benchmarks online.

But I cannot believe how much my fps is dropped from using 7950 instead of 660 ti. I was getting 30-40 fps in smoke with 660 ti. and with the 7950, 30-40 fps seems to be the "normal" fps.

I don't understand this, I installed the drivers and everything properly, how is this happening?

Have you got some way to measure the temp at the back of the card in the location they showed on that site?

Would make returning the card easier if you know.
- or try laying your PC case on its side, pressing the HSF gently onto the GPU then starting your system again + see if that makes a difference to the crashing part.

This issue is probably 90% chance not AMD's fault. Just bad luck with that card - XFX are normally really pretty good.
All brands and makes have the odd bad one.

Sorry you are having a frustrating time with it.
- Did you update the BIOS on the GFx card. (was the 1st thing I did on mine when I got it) Possibly there is an update that "might" improve things.

okay so I tested my hdd with a seagate tool but I wanted to use hirens to test it now but the hard drive doesn't show up in the autoscan in boot menu.

i try using enter manually and just clicked something like the default ide port and it let me do a surface test, however the number of errors increase at the same rate the sectors are being scan so im pretty sure that's not my hdd
any idea?

tried laying the case down, didn't help, still reaching 80 C. AND game still crash but after 4 huors of gameplay.

ok you know wut if i can fix the temp and this darn game crash issue, I would keep this card and OC it to embrace what I have.

well, you seemed to have moved on from a comparison topic to a trouble shooting topic. you ought to consider selecting a best answer to close this thread and then start a new thread asking for feedback with the 7950 issues . . and bumbing is a sure way to get this closed if the (mouse)monkey is around . . . :(

Speaking of which... Hmmm where is he? Such a long thread, he should have been here by now... Never misses out on one of these...

hd 7950 is comparable to gtx 670 ,in hitman absolution it beats gtx 680 and in many games it's very close to it with 12.11 beta ,here is proof:

http://www.techspot.com/review/603-best-graphics-cards/page3.html

http://blogs.amd.com/play/2012/12/10/far-cry-3-in-depth/

http://www.techspot.com/review/608-/page2.html

(nvi sucks their fans money too hard by putting more price on their products so that fools think nv is better...come to the real market and see amd is the king with lesser price tag than nvi)

hd 7950 is a beast

Please ignore this fanboy...

Those are very biased AMD games. The HD7950 IS better stock but not as much as you seem to think.

I did look, and on average the HD7950 is slightly better than the GTX660ti.

"(nvi sucks their fans money too hard by putting more price on their products so that fools think nv is better...come to the real market and see amd is the king with lesser price tag than nvi)"

That statement of yours proves that you are a fanboy and that you have no idea what you are talking about. Note that I OWN A HD7950.

see 7950 boost(800-925) for fair comparison as gtx 670(915-980) and gtx 680(1006-1058) both has boost clock, with lesser price tag of 7950 boost on techspot review....and the links i sent you a normal 7950(800 mhz) beats gtx 680 in absolution and just behind gtx 680 in far cry3....so a boost 7950 will surely beat gtx 680(1006-1058) in far cry3....(considering the proven fact that metro 2033,absolution and fc3 are 3 most demanding game graphically....

........in techspot conclusion also said that as resolution increased gtx 670(915-980) suffers more than hd 7950 boost(800-925)....-"Radeon HD 7950 Boost is the better proposition and things just get worse for the GTX 670 as the resolution is increased."

....what type of person you are,,,you tell that you have 7950 and thinking that if you have nvi you would have got better perf...it also makes you a fanboy of nvi hype...

based on techspot and also amd official link i sent 7950 boost(800-925) beats gtx 680(1006-1058) on games as dirt showdown, sniper elite v2,hitman absolution, sniper elitev2,warfighter,alien vs predator, sleeping dogs, skyrim, witcher 2...etc
.... a normal 7950(800 mhz) beats gtx 680 in absolution and just behind gtx 680 in far cry3(i linked the benches above)

.....and also see this link where even without 12.11 beta,1.2ghz 7950 beats 1.3 ghz gtx 670 and pounded oc 660ti ....

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/08/23/galaxy_gtx_660_ti_gc_oc_vs_670_hd_7950/2

...so it proves 7950(with much lesser price and greater oc potential than 670) is comparable to gtx 670 wrt performance and not 660ti...

....therefore,i told don't fall on nvi marketing trap and sprout your hard earned cash on nvi...they sucks their fans money too hard

Hey Crazy dodger...HD 7950 and 7970 stocks differ by 2-3fps avg..so in case u can't provide 7950 u can give 7970 as a refernce..beside i clearly provided AMD HD 7950 official benchmark at their site..Know what 7950 matches and outperforms 680 leave 7970-thats what in AMD official benchmark at AMD site...Now if Nvidia thinks it's bullshit they could go for lawsuit against AMD for falsely influencing the market to their own advantage in the market--But Nvidia didn't and couldn't..Why coz they know every single thing there is right. There are probably hundreds of legitimate benchmarks and direct game-play videos on youtube that proves it.

As for you -It's better not go pay any attention to what you say :sol: simply coz u are simply influencing someone to buy a legitimate under-performing overpriced product a.k.a GTX 660Ti  instead of possibly the best price/performance GPU of current gen out there....Guess you are raging and obsessed & acutely possessed with "MEANT TO BE FORCED PLAYED" :D

As for me being accused as a fan boy  I have GTX 260 HD 5670 HD 6850 GTX 460 ....Every way AMD is superior price/performance

And lastly not only in Tom's even in Anadtech and techspot Techreport there exists some posts of this type-->"Hi....I have GTX blah blah and I bought HD ... but now HD **** is giving me crap Fps..Guess i made a wrong choice going AMD ..." and generally these morons were caught not even buying the Radeon cards..Just flaming and bragging in forums just to sympathize with themeselves once they found how downgraded was their purchase of GTx ***. For this Moderators are thinking to implement a screening before account creation such that genuine data aren't lost amidst moronic ideas :na:

I have just one thing to reply. Did you see what GPU i own? If you read ALL my posts you would see I ALWAYS prefer suggesting the HD7950 above a GTX660ti.

Can I choose my own answer lol?

Well to conclude, for my experience if i can choose again, i will choose 660 ti.

1. quiter
2. cooler
3. better performance in 3dmark 11, bf3
4. better warranty by gigabyte(gigabyte is the cheapest 660 ti one)
4. cheaper
