xp dual core patch

I've instaled the amd x2 driver ,change the registry on xp ,now do I really need to install xp dual core patch and if yes is there anyone nice enough to eamil me the XP dual core patch

Im not sure if you should or not, but im curious is to what you did in your registry because I have a dual core proc as well and would like anything to make it run better?

this is what I did on the rgistry
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, point to New, and then click Key.
3. Type Throttle for the new key name.
4. Right-click Throttle, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
5. Type PerfEnablePackageIdle for the value name.
6. Right-click PerfEnablePackageIdle, and then click Modify.
7. In the Value data box, type 0. Make sure that Hexadecimal is selected in the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, and then click OK.

Note You can type 1 in the Value data box to enable the new performance state policy behavior.
8. Quit Registry Editor.

Is there any driver or XP patch for intel dual core proc like C2D E6600?

it is a microsoft xp dual-core patch, i have never heard of it being cpu specific so it should work on your intel.

on my amd x2 3800, it has disabled cool n' quiet even though it is enabled in bios.

The xp multi-core fix is not needed unless you are experiencing performance problems with your multi-core cpu!!

Dont install it just because you got a dual-core cpu.

Cool´n quiet ofc doest work with it because the patch and the registry change forces it not to work since the performance problems who showed up on some systems had something to do with cpu´s not clocking to full speed even when the application needed it. Thats why trotteling was disabled with this "workaround" which is just available if you experience the performance problems and write it to MS. In that case they would send you the patch. They do it that way since ppl read "multicore fix" and install it even if not needed.

Get the latest cpu-driver for your x2-3800 it improved C´nQ. You can also find a new CPU optimizing tool on the AMD support page.

I have done some experimenting and found the best combo to be AMD dual core driver and AMD dual core optimizer.
The XP hotfix did nothing but slow my system down and made things worse.

I didnt use the hotfix and had no probs without.

I´m as well using the amd driver and optimizer. So far I cant see any difference to before. Didnt bother to benchmark though. With games I still got a 50 % load so whatever the optimizer is doing, it seems games do not benefit.

Very interesting reading - I was not aware of such a problem in XP.

Realizing that this hotfix probably does not apply to every situation where things seem slow, I wonder if a situation I'm having might qualify?

I have IBM T43 and T60 notebooks, all very similar config and same clock speed. The T60 has a dual core, the T43 a single.

There are very reproducable circumstances in some office applications (fairly large Excel doc using some cubes mostly) where the single-core T43 is outpacing the T60 in side-by-side comparisons.

Should I try this patch? Anyone know where I can get it? Could it be emailed to me if I PM someone my email too?

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I want to ask a quick question without having to create a whole new thread. Does AMD's Dual Core patch work for Opterons as well? I'm running a Opteron 170.

I was under the impression that the AMD fix and optimizer would apply only to AMD X2 processors - the IBM T43 and T60 are both Intel.

Sorry, I did not specify which platform...

Is my assumption incorrect?

i have it under the name WindowsXP-KB896256-v3-x86-ENU
it does nothing for me....well nothing i see....

Is there a way to make a program always run on just one core... my creative mixer is slow on 2...well not slow....just does not close instantly like my athlon64 did... also my windows boot times while not slow...are far from fast...my a64 3200 still gets in faster(same for getting into photoshop)...
Also i see a loading windows word appear on the login startup(for 1 or so seconds)....it aint there on my A64 desktop(3200)....but it is on the laptop(3000 with slow drive)...but not on any other computer all the way down to like my XP1800 and P4 1.8. so any help on this is good too...would it be that they both have wireless?(like i am gonna use that on my desktop..)
I think its just that it has faster hard drives in raid then this one(it gets avg 94 this one gets 70-something)....

So if anyone knows if an Intel dual core patch...or if dual core just does this normaly....i mean it is not allot slower...and it still kicks ass in everything else i do...pls pm me if u have a patch

it is definately not needed unless you use cool n quiet and even then i am not you need it now.

I didnt use the MS-Core-Patch and cool´n quiet worked just fine. It´s definetly just for ppl who experienced performance problems. The fix has something to do with powersaving, but it´s still not needed for everyone using c´n q but just for a hand full of ppl with a certain config.

And even if c´n q would be the cause, it wouldnt have needed a hotfix because disabling should have fixed that problem.

Maybe I never had probs with c´n q from the start because I did install the AMD-driver right away (not the latest, it wasnt available at that time). In that case it´s just an MS-CPU-Driver problem which is fixed by installing the AMD-driver.

Just forget about that lame hotfix if you do not experience performance problems and dont think that the MS-hotfix or AMD´s optimizer is fixing that games are just using one core. Most games are not programmed to use more than one core, thats why they wont.

I´m still waiting for the AMD-driver who can set the core which is not used by software to idle including reducing it´s voltage. I read it should be released by this year.
