I have a netbook (EEE PC 701SD) which is a good few years old now and it has recently become extremely slow. Opening an internet browser takes a very long time. Menus are unresponsive, applications start slowly and it is generally unusable. I have absolutely no clue whatsoever what is wrong with it. I've run a virus scan (MSE and Malwarebytes), but that's all I've really been able to do with it thus far. It was working perfectly yesterday. The only thing I notice with it is the fact that the hard disk light is lit constantly, as in, it's solid green. I'm inclined to say that it is an issue with XP because of this. Any help anyone is able to offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

either your antivirus software is running some extensive scan on your system or you got a worm that is eating through your hard drive. In either case, get another antivirus to check your hdd.

another issue could be that your hard drive is starting to fail slowly. I'd recommend to back up your data, just in case. I'm not sure if there's any diagnostic software available to check how well your HDD is doing tho.
