hey guys i have a problem and i need your help,

i have a desktop with which i am trying to re install windows xp pro sp1.

i get to the partition selection screen and it shows 4 "unknown disks, (there is no disk in this drive.)"

and there are no partitions to select.

however if i select to delete partitions i get blue screen of death

if i select to setup xp on selected partition i get bsod

if i choose tocreat a partition by pressing "c" nothing happens im asuming since theres no disk/

now after bsod it sayds disk boot failure.

this computer had xp on it previously and i have installed windows 7 no prob

but i canot get ac 97 audio drivers to worrk in win7

the mobo is a ms 7061 with onborad sound and a sata hdd

any help much appreciated..cam...

It's no coincidence that your motherboard has four SATA sockets and the message XP is giving you is that there is no drive on any of them. You might work around this by changing BIOS settings on IDE or SATA or maybe even AHCI or just by making sure the connection is right between the hard disk cable and the #1 SATA plug.
