Hey everybody, I have a question about buying XP that I can't get a good answer on.
OK, I want to install XP pro on my new computer that i'm putting together next week. However, I am now broke from buying said computer 😉. Newegg sells xp pro for $140, but I'd like to spend a lot less. Searching for xp on pricewatch.com brings up a lot of items for $70 saying "no cd, license only."
My question is, if I can get the xp disc, can i just buy the license to make it legal? Is the license the same thing as the key # which I think you need to register xp? (It's been a long time since I set up a new computer.) I was going to ask MS directly but they want $99 for email response 🙁
Please, anyone with info or experience on this let me know, I'm going to need to do this in the next couple of days. Thanks in advance
Erik

Yes, as a matter of fact if you've got a friend with an installation disk you're in business, heres what you'll definitely have to get right, because theres no getting around this, an OEM WinXP Home Version Product Key only works with an OEM WinXP Home Installation disk, Pro Key only works with a Pro Disk, Corporate Key only works with Corporate Disk, ETC.
